Windshield Cracks

I've had my X1 since March and already have four separate cracks in the windshield. This is my first BMW. Is this normal? This windshield seems much, MUCH more fragile than past cars I've owned.

my wife and have several BMW's (new and used) and have never had any issues with the windshields or any other glass cracking. I'm due to pick up my X1 in 4 weeks, so I hope its not just an X1 issue....

That doesn't sound right.
Under what circumstances did the cracks appear?

Same here, one stone off the highway made a nice chip which is now developing into a crack even though i had it repaired with epoxy...

Windshield has taken some other hits with no problem though so in my experience it seems tough enough.

All freeway driving in Houston, which has plenty of crap on the roads. I've had cracks in past cars, but never this many this fast.

I hear yah. In the winter they often sand the freeways here before, during and after snowstorms and trucks can kick up small stones.
I've had 6 stone chips during the past 12 years (2 on my 2003 Z4, 1 on my 2005 Saabaru 9-2X, 2 on my 2010 Subaru Forester and 1 on my 2008 1er cab). All of these were repaired successfully by autoglass guys (except for the chip on the 9-2X which has started to crack beyond the size of a quarter and the windshield had to be replaced).

Are you talking about small stone chips which can be repaired by autoglass guys or are these irreparable cracks which require windshield replacement.

Garage List
Could be worse, they sand the roads here in alberta with backfill stones. Getting more than 6 months out of windshield here is almost unheard of

^ this.

I made it to a little over 4 months on mine before I got a crack. Had a decent sized chip that I had to repair after 2 days

One moon shaped crack about the size of a quarter. One 8" long, another 10" long, and the last is 24" long. All except the moon are still growing. So, I'm looking for a replacement windshield.
