ER downpipes! N20

Today I brought my ER pipes to a very reputable shop here in Calgary. I ordered the cat version with no extra bungs and the black heat coating. The piece looked very well made.

The shop originally quoted me 1.5 hours for the job when we first looked at it. After getting it on the hoist, there was no chance it was going to be that easy.

I didn't really stick around and watch the guy install it, so I can't really state the steps that need to be taken, but I do know a lot of the car had to be taken apart. The instructions they sent me were for an X3 N20, not an X1 N20.

Once in the car, the power difference is very noticeable. Power comes on harder down low and seems to not fall off as fast. The noise from my waste gate is much louder (annoyingly loud due to the aFe intake I have). The exhaust note is also a tad louder which is a good thing.

I drove around afterwards for a good hour with no problems. Then I took my car to the car wash. About 25mins of driving, the idiot light came on. I wish I had a scan tool, but I don't so I'll bring it in to see what it is. Hopefully it's from the wash and not the ER parts.

All in all, everything still seems really awesome with it. Putting the two pieces together, you can really see how restrictive the factory down pipe is. The shop was very courteous, clean and fairly priced. PM me if you're in the area and need a good shop.

ER was a gem to deal with. Their customer service is excellent, the products look and feel great. The only exception was the X3 instructions (not really even needed at a shop or at home). I would definitely recommend this upgrade to anyone with the 28i.

Next up: charge pipes sitting on my floor, Stoptech brakes are on order.

Got our 28i Dinan yesterday. Love it!

They quoted me 1.5H to start with, ended up being 4.5H. I'll let you know what happens with the code as soon as I find out.

Did you order your downpipe from the states? I'm looking for a canadian retailer.

If I get a downpipe I might hold off on getting the AFE intake.

I'm still debating on getting the Catless or Catted, due to being in very strict emission law state and tax collectors here love giving you a ticket for anything.
I already have a tune really happy with it, but wouldn't mind to see what the dp can do and hear extra exhaust noise without spending so much on exhaust and losing back pressure.

Can you record a video for us please?

I work 10's, no time to go to the dealer. The light's off, but I'm sure the code still exists. If I have time on my days off I'll get it looked at.

http://www.**********s.com/evolution...-EXH006CAT.htm

Does this DP throw a code or not? Thanks!

That's the one I had. Threw a code and I used everything I could to try to trick the O2 sensor. Nothing worked so I ended up removing it. JB4 will clear the code, but it will keep coming back every so often, and since that's the case, you're better off going catless.

Thanks man. How do you like the JB4 on the n20?

There's an o2 sim out there that will work for you if you ever decide to put a DP back on.

JB4 worked great. I ended up switching to Dinan because the JB4 box wouldn't fit in my dme box, and I felt that it was too much power for 91 fuel. I felt that it wad staining the engine to over work it. I still have the JB4, but I no longer have the car. PM me if you're interested, I'll sell it cheap

I got rid of the car so it's no issue anymore. I'm working on getting the A74 Sim for my M2, but I've heard mixed reports on its effectiveness on the N55 engines.

You have? Thought it was working for everyone who installed it correctly. Certainly works fine on our N55, and several other owners I know personally.

Where are these mixed reviews?

They were on here awhile back on the 2addicts/M2 boards. It might have been people using the older sim

Yeah, I posted in there.

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1260253

No one had any issues getting the readiness monitors passed without throwing a CEL. Some stored ghost codes (non-obdii) initially, but no one had any issues affecting the purpose of the sim...to pass inspection.

So again, where are the mixed reports of getting it to work on an N55, or any other engine for that matter? Not trying to be a jerk, but this is how bad info is spread.

If there have been reports of it not working on an N55, please post them.

I use the Area 74 CatSim on my N55 it works great and keep O2 sensors happy to allow readiness state and not trigger any cel. No issues at all.. I wish they offered a plug and play harness for install, but can understand how that would increase prices...

I just received my ER downpipe for my N20. Do I need to buy 2 of these O2 simulators or one?

W W W.******.ca/product/io2-universal-oxygen-sensor-simulator/

Seems like ER also makes a solution for the N55 E and F chassis... I wonder if it will work for our N20s too. Time to shoot them an email.

Just one, on the post-cat o2. And yes, that sim will work on the N20. It will work with any car, actually. Have fun!

Is that an "ER" sim? Clearly, it's an ****** with the sticker removed.
