Any advice on rotors?
I can't believe my rotors are so messed up at 45000km
Deep grooves and vibrate at hard braking. Is it worthwhile to go aftermarket or should I give OEM another chance? Any advice will be appreciated. |

FYI BMW OEM rotors are made by zimmerman plus the bmw stampings. Do you press hard on your brakes after you come to a stop or your pads never embedded properly in the first place? |

I do not pay particular attention to how I use brakes. After coming to a stop I apply just enough pressure to hold position. If I am doing it wrong, I have been doing it wrong for 40 years☹️ All my previous vehicles got through at least 2 sets of pads before I had to change rotors. I did not go through an embed procedure though. Just took it easy for the first 1000 km. |

they have lots of options...including the Z4 rotors with aluminum hats...... Both BMWs I have owned and most audis have grooved rotors really quick. its the lip that you should see if they need replaced. |

Is stotted or cross drilled worth getting for a daily driver?

Zimmermann "coat z" rotors are excellent. They have a coating which prevents rusting (which has occurred on all of my BMW oem rotors). The quality is great, and they are made in Germany

Nope, and you'll get better longevity with solid, vented rotors.

I bought drilled and slotted when I replaced the front rotors. While I do drive aggressively in the mountains almost every weekend on the way to mtb, I will be honest and say they just look better.

I am scared to ask what the dealer will charge me. I have always done my own brakes. |

Why don't you go and ask? or give them a call. If it doesn't make sense do it yourself. I am the opposite, I don't touch the brakes and other stuff, dealer does it. I don't have the time or the tools. Ask for the dust free ones. Good luck! |

Centric Stoptech http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/...ad=47433964212 The link may not be the exact rotor because I have a 28, but close enough. |

Just a followup,
It seems like my rotors are smoothing out, I still have some grooves but not as bad as when I started this thread. I did ask the dealer what it will cost me for new pads and rotors on all four corners, I nearly had a stroke when he told me $1830.00 I will definitely do it my self at some point, the hardware will probably be around $300 |

Just go with centric (aka stoptech) blank rotors.
Don't bother with drilled or slotted rotors. They're a visual mod more than anything. They will crack as soon as you get any significant amount of heat in them. |

I got a nice socket set with a torque wrench on black Friday. But my brakes feels really good now, hopefully they will last till summer. It is so much better working on a car if you are not freezing. I will start shopping for part in the mean time. |
