2012 X1, may need a new turbo (oil leak)
Hi,
I got an oil leak problem coming from around the turbo. I purchased a 2012 BMW X1 28i xDrive one month ago and got a bad luck : there's dark smoke coming from the exhaust on every cold start. So I took the car to a good indie BMW mechanic to have it checked and that's what he found : There's an oil leak around the turbocharger and it's coming from either the oil line or both the oil line and the turbo. Work estimate of 7 hours (87.50$CAD/h). My question is, should I take a chance and replace only the oil line for 50$ a piece (and potentially needing to replace the turbo later, paying the 7 hours of work again) or should I replace both parts at the same time ? I was quoted 2750$ for a new turbo. Thanks for your input! Akvaristu (long time lurker, first time poster)

the oil LINE would not leak into the turbine housing of the turbocharger causing black smoke at start up.. the seal in the turbo is bad.
rebuild or buy a new turbo.. |
