FMIC, DP 28i

Looking into buying the COBB FMIC for the N55 for my 28i. If it doesn't fit, is anyone willing to buy it off me for their N55?

Also looking into the Evolution catless DP. Anyone have any fitment issues with this brand?

Last thing, for anyone who has the aFe intake for either engine, have you experienced any heat soak with the aluminum pipe? Turner said they haven't tested for it and asked me how they would test for it (thought that was a dumb question from a tuner, but hey). So does anyone feel like after running the car with the intake, does power slowly drop off as under hood temps get hotter, for longer periods of time?

I tried the DP. It was a pain in the ass and I never could get it installed. Is you had an sDrive it might be easier. The best install price I got was $200. I lost interest after I got my motorcycle, so I sold it off.

If you have a 28i you do not have the N55 engine, you have a N20 or N26

No shit. I know what engine I have. Clearly, since nobody makes one specifically for the N20 I want to see if the N55 one will fit. The stock N55 FMIC looks identical to the 28i's.

Just trying to help. eh?

Why would you think one for an N55 would fit? Don't you think manufacturers would know and market that it would fit if it did?

Hey Twix,
I only have the drop in filter, and felt a better improvement in turbo pull. Nothing I can tell from heat soak issues since I am still retaining stock intake plumbing.
Is there a new intake for the 28?

aFe makes one for the 28i. It's aluminum though. I've had bad luck with aluminum intakes in the past on my Contour. But that one was a short ram and had no shield. The aFe piece is obviously much better.

As for the intercoolers, I believe BMW used the same size tubing and tubing placement angles etc for both the N20 and the N55. I'm 99% sure it's just the depth of the core and the end tanks which are different.

I'm going to buy the cooler from COBB, they have a 90 day guarantee. If it doesn't fit I'll just return it. If it fits, awesome.

Not yet. I still have to order it, which I'll do Thursday. Probably will take 6 weeks or so to come from COBB to my door.

I will have a fmic, dp, cp and meth on my s2.8 in about two weeks. I'll let you know how well it works. I currently have the jb4 and am working on getting the ewg harness installed.

Not yet. Spending money on a trip to europe right now. I'll try to get it before Christmas. I've talked to a few guys and they all say there's no difference between the 28i cooler and the 35i cooler in terms of inlet and outlet placement.

Edit: I ditched my aFe Scorcher and ordered JB4. Should be at my door friday (hopeful).
