I called their 1-800 number and routed through to a customer service representative. They filed the dealership complaint and then connected me to a "resolution specialist." He drove me nuts. He claimed he was as high as I could escalate. When asked both (a) who writes his checks and (b) whether I should take a trip to Munich, he gave me the same canned half-hearted apology.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Contact the leasing company and ask what's possible?
Depends on the contract off course.

Contact BMW grand importer in your regio?

A little bit of service is giving you a car like:
-X1, X3 lol
-3 series
-1 series or even a Mini

Hope you will get a better solution soon.
I know the feeling but then all 'replacement' cars where with garanty issues.
Your car shouldn't be the price off 3 replacement cars.
A contract is one thing, service is important and for sure mouth to mouth commercial or bad publicity. (They got a big leasing contract? Perhaps next year not anymore?)

One positive note is that your vehicle will have a few months' fewer miles on it when you get it back.

Finally!

I finally got my X1 back today! The damage they caused and the resulting repairs ended up totally nearly $9k. I know this because the body shop put in an insurance claim of their own (and I had to co-endorse the check).

After many friendly and strongly worded emails and phone calls, here is the outcome:
1. I had a loaner or insurance-covered rental since the accident (end of September).
2. They are reimbursing me lease payments for January, February, and five days of March.
3. I did not pay my deductible.

I remember the steering being great, but I forgot how amazing it is.
