Nice suprise (free) options

Am starting a thread to report back on any nice surprise the X1 brings with it.

When my dealer was going through the controls of the car he mentioned a nice feature I did not know the X1 comes with.

You can set a timer through the radio interface that will start circulating air through the car (ie fan) for up to 30 min before you get in. This can be set up to 24 hrs in advance. So if you know that you leave the house at 8am every morning you can set it so that the fan goes on at 0730am. Does not provide a heating function from cold unless you have the auxiliary heater which is not available in the UK. However, if the cars engine is warm, eg if you jumped out at the shops, it can use the engines warmth to keep the interior snug.

I have played around with it but will see how well it works when the frosts set in.

PS : Sorry about the typo in the title, don't know how to change it.

Is this equivalent to REST function that was on older auto A/Cs?

How do you do this? I have the Sat Nav Pro installed. I really miss the REST feature that was on my 3 series.

Hi,

You can use this feature through the settings tab of the main menu if you have the nav pro.
it was a surprise for me too like many other things.

unfortunately BMW's main distributor and dealers in Turkey do not give the necessary importance to X1... the sales people are not well informed... I've taken delivery of the first X1 with navi pro in Turkey

Hi ya

Thanks for the reply. I was just about to reply to say I've found it. I never bothered to look in the climate settings menu.

In mine the Active Ind. Ventalation is greyed out but I can set the to two timers belew it. I take it to active the top option you need the optional extra to warm the cabin up?

This is a function that surprised me as well, nothing in the usermanual, the dealer told me nothing about it. Might be useful both in warm as cold conditions. Me myself is going to mount the original dieselheater, I think it will be integraded with this function.

I also looked for it in the manual but nothing. Eventually found a short reference to it in the radio's manual, go figure. I don't have the SatNav/Comp so mine is set through the radio's menu

Parking sensors

Found another interesting bit.

As I don't have the SatNav my parkings sensors are only a audio signal, ie a series of beeps. However the beeps come from the speaker nearest to the sensor So for example if the left rear sensor detects something, only the left rear speaker emits the beeps.

Voice Control

Been meaning to mention this. Nice surprise that the bluetooth option 644 included voice control. I was not expecting this.

I have set it up now and its really easy to use and very accurate. Now I just push the voice button on the steering wheel, say Dial Name >> it asks for the name >> I say Home >> it (she) dials...easy

Interestingly it actually records your voice for the names and then does an electronic match. When you say Phonebook >> it reads them back in your own voice...spooky.

Sorry if I sound impressed, just I have some nice cars in the past but always passed on the bluetooth option. No reason other than I like driving and don't want to be bothered by mobile (cell) phones. Anyway my family (and the law) finally convinced me.
