X1 35i SprintBooster review...
I wanted to do a quick writeup on the SprintBooster (SBBM1002s)product that I have installed a couple of months ago. I went back and forth on this purchase for quite a while as they are very expensive (approx $289 for) a simple plug and play throttle signal booster. Good reviews are out there, but many people don't try it due to the high price tag... I love it!
https://www.sprintboosterusa.com/ Install is very easy and you just have to take the bolt out of the bottom of the pedal and then slide it out towards the brake pedal. The new Sprint Booster harness snaps into place and I have it zip tied into a bundle at the top of the pedal, then the remote switch can be mounted wherever you want. I simply ran the wire in the center console and the switch is near my right knee where the carpet meets the plastic center console. I have tried the 3 maps for throttle and just cant say enough great things about the product. 95% of driving is in the middle map, Stage 1(Green light). It really increases the response of the pedal input and no lag exists, true throttle position is registered in the ecu. I even see the immediate response of the throttle opening while doing "logs" with the JB4 tune. In the past the pedal position would be at 100%, but the throttle would take a very long time to open to 100%, now it shows dramatic difference on my logs. The car should perform like this from the factory and not have the ridiculous pedal delay. I thinks this product works very well with the Alpina flash for the 6 speed auto as it makes power and torque easier at the low rpms in regular drive mode as the Alpine shifts very early in D. I have turned it off on numerous occasions just to reinforce my thoughts about how much I love this product. I'd buy it, they do have a 30 day return option if not satisfied! Try it out and see for yourself. It should be a $49 product and everyone would buy it! I have several mods and changes on my car and this is near the top of the list to change the driving feel of the car and make it a great daily driver. If anyone else has feedback feel free to chime in... |

Thanks for your report. I am very uncomfortable with the throttle response on my X1, and this sounds like a solution. Are there any negative side effects?

drop on MPG, not sure how much on X1 but with my Lexus it dropped around 3mpg, but yes no more delay on throttle response and there is your give and take.

not sure on the warranty, it takes 10 minutes to install and less time to uninstall if you have an issue or concern.
It has option to be installed and essentially be in the "off" position and then has 2 other settings or levels of sensitivity control. It really improves the driving experience... but again it is expensive for what it is |

Check out the link in the first post and then hit the "media" tab, the first video does a good job at explaining how it works and the stages. I think the green light is ideal for daily driving. The remote is on a wire and can be mounted or you can just set it to stage 1 and remove the remote as it will just stay on stage 1 setting. All it does is open the throttle more quickly, I guess this could lead to better/faster performance, but for me it was about the huge improvement in drivability by removIng that annoying throttle lag.

out of curiosity why did you go with sprint booster over a tune? the tune would give you additional power and mitigate DBW lag and improve drive-ability overall.

I do use JB4 stage 2 with ISO. The piggyback JB4 or Cobb tune doesn't help with electronic throttle lag. I have no idea if Dinan flash does anything with the throttle. I also have the Alpina trans flash so that changes the 6sp auto shift points dramatically.

Just received my Sprint Booster and installed it. With just a go around the neighborhood, I definitely like the quicker response. The Aggressive mode is a little much but the medium setting is perfect. Thanks again for your review. I previously never noticed a throttle delay but clearly after using the Sprint Booster, there is some.

Doesn't sprintbooster just modify the throttle input, so say 10% of throttle input is now 25/30% of WOT. It takes any linear response out of it, and "re-maps" it.
How is that actually eliminating throttle delay? Cant you just push down on the pedal faster? |

I'm not sure how this sprint booster works but JB4 now has menu 11 which will remap the throttle and MHD is out for late N55's now. Both of those will eliminate the throttle lag and provide more power.

It does simply remap the throttle, but it takes it from “less than linear to more than linear” - so to speak. It goes from from something like 50% = 1/3, to 50% = 2/3. I don’t think it effects throttle delay.
I use it and like it - the car feels a bit lazy without it. |

I uninstalled mine. Definitely make driving smoothly harder. I don't think there is any lag in our cars when you have it in manual mode...at least for the 35i. I even don't like aggressive mapping in JB4 throttle adjustment.

I found the JB4 adjustments to be pretty extreme and had mine set pretty low. I also found that you would overboost at part throttle.
