$1K isn't bad at all. $5K is just ridiculous. The only thing I can think of is maybe he meant down payment and not deposit. Which to me are 2 completely different things. Hopefully when I go back in, that's what he meant. MSRP for what I'm looking at is 48600, I think trying for 47000 won't be too much of a low ball. I don't want to insult him too much.

$5000 no way!!! I wouldn't put more than $1000 down. I agree with the others, shop around and talk to several dealers. Since you only have two... that is a little hard. I had about 4 or 5 in my area but they were all pretty much in the same price range for what I wanted. I went with the dealer that had the most allocations so that I could get my car made asap. Ordered 3/3 and boat reached port 4/19.

Whats the invoice price?
A fair deal is 2.5-3.5% above invoice.

Yeah, the $5000 deposit sounds strange. Perhaps you're right about the down payment on financing vs deposit.
1-2K is normal.

Hello Twix,

First of all, BMW does not aprove undercoating on its cars. Also, BMW has 12 years rust protection warranty so you don't need it.

In regards with the deposit, I know that our US coleagues have a different opinion but this is Canada, things are a litle bit different in here. However, you can negociate that too.
When you order the car, on your order sheet, you write by hand in your copy and their copy "the customer has the right te refuse the vehicle and receive back the full deposit if the ordered vehicle does not match 100% the buildsheet". You sign and the manager sign it too. If they don't sign it, that means they are not confident with their services, so take your money and go away.
Where are you buying it from, Gallery or Calgary BMW?

Cheers.

Calgary BMW, if they deal. If not I'll try Gallery. Gallery is a good hike from my house and I won't have a vehicle since I'm selling my truck. I'm sure they're a confident dealer as there are thousands of BMWs around here.

How can you get a 28i without NAV up to 48600? With the USD/CAD being almost at parity, that's almost the price of a fully loaded 35i here in the US. Are the prices that much higher in Canada?

Yes they are. The 28i starts at 36900. 48600 is with all taxes, admin fees (600 here) and pdi/freight. With Nav, the MSRP bumps slightly over 50k, and with a 35i M sport (M not avail on 28i) the price can exceed 56k. We here in Canada get screwed with pricing for everything for reasons unknown to me. We also get less option package choices. For instance, the sportline 28i only has 1 wheel choice. The 421 I believe. I also can't get the HK sound in the 28i, which to me is a bummer. I also don't know about the US versions, but we here don't get the fold down centre rear armrest in the sport, just in the base and xline.

We also pay a lot more taxes than you guys to the south, I guess that's what we get for being far more socialist.

Taxes are ok as long as you get something back. When I lived in BC for a short while, it was nice to get physiotherapy without paying through my teeth. And the roads were better maintained than across the border. Not great, but better. There might be a cone at the pothole for a week or two before it got fixed, but at least you got the cone and the fix, not having to wait until next year's budget.

But the non-tax related differences, I just don't get. There's little reason why Canadians shouldn't have the same choices for the same prices before tax (except that summer-only tires should, perhaps be a special order in both Canada and the Northern US states, given that there are people stupid enough in both countries to try to drive on snow with them). If anything, I think it would simplify logistics if all of NA had the same offers.

Good luck with buying your X1 - it's a great car. At least there are some aftermarket options for things like better sound, or armrest for the rear.

Yeah, the worst is the Freight charges. $2395 ? Damn...
I cried a little when I first saw that in the quote.
And the 12% tax in B.C. is harsh.
But luckily the sticker price was under $50,000. There is an extra %3 luxury tax on cars over $50,000.
Although, now I have to go double check, because that might have been wiped out with our HST tax. But since the HST was just removed in April it could be back. Oh my.
