Ugly yellow lights

Hi all I'm in the process of getting A 2011 X1 but it doesn't have xenons. I want to replace the standard halogens with something a bit whiter I know for the full and dipped beams I need H7s but what lights are used for DRL? Is it the dipped ? The manual isn't especially clear :-). Thanks. UK spec if that makes a difference.

The DRL lights it your high beam at a lower voltage, hence the yellow.
Even if you replace them with a better bulb, at a lower voltage it be less white.
Anyhow that is what we have in Canada as far as I know.
Have a look further down in the forum, there is someone solving your problem.

Whatever you decide to do, please don't be that guy that gets an aftermarket HID kit and put them in that halogen housing only to blind on coming drivers. Nothing makes me more angry than that.

I've used blue dipped halogen bulbs in the past and are whiter but the light is poor.

They were cheap bulbs I bought though and I understand the more expensive Bosch or Osram ones are pretty good.

Can't remember off the top of my head what temp I had, but I think it was 6000. Anything more than that and they leave white and look blue

Can you confirm its the same setup - ie I only need to change the full beam and dipped?

Thanks

The voltage of every bulb can be adjusted via coding.

It was 6000k bulbs that I had. They seemed to be the whitest without verging on blue.

Bear in mind though that this is simply a cheap solution for a whiter light, not a top-end solution.

For the price though, worth a shot

Looked at a few options, and whilst trying to keep to a reasonable budget have decided to try MTEC super whites. Anyone have any experience of these?

Thanks

I used Philips Diamond Vision h7 5000K halogen on both high and low beams. The color on the low beam will be bluish white. The high beam is used for DRL and at a reduced output, so you won't get the full color out of it. DRL will be whiter but still yellowish so I simply disabled it from the iDrive settings.

Thanks for that - I dont think I'll have to worry about DRL actually - theres no light sensor on the car, so my light options are OFF, Dipped or Sidelights.

Need to wait and see when I get it

Things didnt work out with that particular car but everything for a reason because I found one with xenons - so will have ugly yellow angel eyes instead!!

I find the LUX option a bit pricey, although I may go down that route eventually....

Anyone else used white lights for the halo rings with any success?

BMW supposedly changed the MY2013 angel eyes to a brighter, and bluer bulb to make less contrast.

They did but the car I'm looking at is a 2011, so it still has the yellow tinged lights.
