Compatible wheels for e84 X1

Hi all,

This may be answered elsewhere, so apologies in advance, but I've just moved from an e87 130i to an X1 23D, and I'm keen to understand which wheels are compatible with the new car.

I assume because it's built on the E90 platform, that any E90 wheels would work? The wheels on my new X1 are 17" and I'd like to upgrade to 18".

Cheers!

If you do the math, 20's will fit but with rubber bands for tires. Most end up with 19's for aftermarket or even BMW branded wheels. I believe you guys in Australia are limited to a +1? If so, there's a ton of wheels from BMW or better yet, the aftermarket, which will fit with no problems. Feel free to PM me if you want to know my sizes etc.

Hi Nick,
Would have loved to get 23d but the one I looked at in 2011, demo/used, 4000km's, they wanted $70,000 drive away. To rich for my blood so ordered 20d.
I go along with Twix's comments.

Would like more Info. on your circumstances as there are thousands of wheels out there. What Year is your car. Do you still have the Original Wheels and Tyres on your car.
Are you looking to be conservative and just get 18's with square set up, BMW type or have an open mind re Staggered, Aftermarket etc.

It depends on your taste. What Colour and Style/Type do you like for your car, chrome, silver, black, blue etc.
Don't know what year yours is but I believe the earlier 23d's had bigger brakes and went back to the same as the other models. This might be a big consideration when changing wheels.

I noticed you have 130i, that's a 6 isn't it and you've made 42 Posts. So I presume your aware that when changing Wheels you have to know your Original Tech. Details.
Was told the E90 to E93 are similar to the X1 but I would be checking/comparing Offsets to your Originals.

I have looked at 100's Wheels/Brands in Aust. and O/Seas and some time back got 18's from USA, yet to be fitted.

Anyway, Welcome, Happy to help and look forward to your comments.

Love how your setting up your X1.
Just a side Question.
With your 235's on 8.5's, front set up. Have you had any issues with rubbing eg. turning around in tight spot or have you modified/rolled etc. the front.
Cheers.

Zero problems, no rubbing and zero trimming or rolling. Those were pre-requisites when I ordered my wheels.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

My 23D is stock with the 17" 7.5 wheels, and I'm looking at some 19" X3 wheels (see link here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281519806...84.m1423.l2649) which are 8.5F and 9R.

My issue is just whether the offset on the front will be too different. Current setup is an offset of 34, but the new wheels have an offset of 46 on the front, which means about 25mm less clearance on the inside of the wheel.

Do you think that's a problem?

GTony, FYI mine's an 2011.5, with 35,000kms on the clock, has business nav and a few other bits and bobs, I got it for $37k. I didn't think that was a bad deal, has an extra year warranty and scheduled servicing so a pretty safe bet. Surprisingly the twin turbo has almost as much pull as the old N52 6 in the 130i... although doesn't sound half as good!

I do a copy paste of my answer.

I used 3 websites on my search for new rims.
http://www.bmwstylewheels.com/ All BMW style wheels.
http://www.willtheyfit.com/ Euh, will the new wheels fit, you get a answer to that questions.
http://www.leebmann24.de/ Shop with OEM parts, you get a idea for what it out there, ET values and stuff to compare with the X1 stuff.

Note, you could use spacers to up the ET value (or just bring out the rim to the out side).

xdrive loves same setup on front and rear, I ordered 2 time the front rims set.

I'm running the M performance 20" (8J with 225 tires) from the 3 series.
The 6mm difference (on ET value) isn't a problem.
(I have 20mm spacers at the rear just for optical purposes.)

21" 8,5J from the 7 series wouldn't work.To bad because they have some bad-ass bi-colors.

Spacers for more clearance (bringing the rim 20mm to the outside). A spacer of 20mm would be super, the 5mm doesn't matter. Not sure spacer of 25mm (or 30mm) exist.

I have 20mm spares at the rear axle (for looks) and they double bolted so much safer. (Spacer is bolted on the car and the rim is bolted on the spacer.)

Use the website in my previous post.
Good luck!

How are the Spacers bolted on the car?
What's the procedure?
Thanks.

Here just a example on Google.
You got them in black (my shop where idiots, they ordered in silver, I painted them in black).

http://store.allsprings.com/black-bm...ore-p3663.aspx

It is called DRA system, the 5 extra bolts are delivered with the spacer, no problems with the secure bolt. Center bore and the 5x120mm setup isn't changed (there are spacer that change this if you want to fit non-OEM wheels)

BeemerX1, Thanks,
Looks like the Hub holds the Spacer and the Spacer holds the Wheel.
Is that how it works?

Sorry for the late reply.
New reply don't color up anymore on the site, I don't see much at the DIY section.

You explained it just fine.
I just didn't read it properly in the first place.
