Fuel Consumption

Gentlemen,
Let's discuss the fuel consumption. I have the gasoline 1.8i with automatic gear and the avg. fuel consumption of 11,3-11,6. Sometimes it climbs to 12 but never drops below even if drive in the country.
Mostly I drive they highways so expect the consumption circa 10 liters per 100 km (the techdata says the composite consumption is about 8.2)

I wonder, if it's normal? I try to never spin up over 3.500 rpms.

What are your rates?

My X1 Xdrive 2.0d Auto Consumption

7.3 l/100km but thats with about 80% city driving.

I am really impressed considering I am still running it in.

Hoping to get it under 7 soon.

My X1 Sdrive 2.0d Auto Consumption

Ditto

7.3l/100km with 100% urban driving. I've had it down to 7.2l/100km for a short time, but then went back to 7.3l/100km and has stayed there. We have had the car for almost 8 weeks now. I hope the figure will get better as the engine settles in over time.

Wow! The diesels are much less voracious than the gasoline. Unfortunately, they do not offer 1.8d for Russian market... They however do offer 2.0 but the price tag is too high for me.

An update. Did a few hundred miles the last few days of mostly open road and......6.9 l/100km average. Yippee...

Had it down to 6.4 for a while but I did a fair bit of hill climbing in the highlands hunting for snow so that pushed it up a wee bit again.

Found some snow but it was too high up...and the X1 is many things but not quite a mountain goat.

Jokes aside the X1 impresses me more and more every time I take it for a long run.

Bad bits: very little except I keep hitting my head on the tail gate, not sure why as it does open quite wide.

Also there are two leaf traps just below the windscreen I cannot get my hands in to clean

If you're referring to those "grid thingies", they are easy to remove for cleaning and put back.

There is a very nice site called spritmonitor.de.
There you can see great information about fuel consumption of all kinds of cars.
Go to BMW and X1 and you will see a survey of consumption distribution.

You can see my xDrive 25i for the last 7000 km and all the X1 diesel.
Have a look and you see the real consumption.

xDrive23d Manual

Haven't done much more than 300-400 miles yet, but so far it seems to have settled fairly firmly at 38.7mpg (7.3l/100km). Most miles done on Motorway, maybe 80/20 split (but plenty of traffic jams on those motorways!).

Hi Terryd, no offence but are you sure you have that right? It seems incredibly light. Also 38.7 mpg is 6.1 l/100km.

Hi Mario,

No prob, I'm not 100% sure, I've only refilled one tank from the initial £45 dealer fill, so haven't checked manually yet. That figure is what the in-car computer is telling me. It went up to about 44mpg, but dropped to about 36mpg after a fair bit of stop/start and town driving. It's pretty much stable now at 38.7, only going to 39.2 after very very steady 70'ish motorway driving for long periods.

I did the conversion from mpg to l/100km from a couple of websites. Not sure what the exact conversion rate is.

Isn't 6.1l/100km the conversion from US rather than UK mpg?

Heck, mine has increased lately by 1 liter almost. With 90% of urban driving consumption has topped to 12.8 and sometimes it climbs up to 14-15. It's 18i and I never spin it higher than 3.500 rpms. By the way, seems like the firmware does not allow the engine to spin higher than 3.500 and drive over 160 km/h. I tried to drive fast on the highway but the speedometer stayed always at 160 @ 3500 no matter how forcibly I was flooring the gas pedal.

I've seen the results. I wonder how could it be that your 3 liter 25i consumes less that my 2 liter 18i (I understand that your averages are 8 liters with mine meandering near 12 liters per 100 km)? Vielleicht die Autobahnen die die Rolle gespielt haben?
Anyways, that's good of your car.

I think there is a mistake: My 25i needs about 10,6 l per 100 km not 8.
