Rear defroster defective ?

Noticed that when I turn on the rear defroster only 2/3's of the heating element warm up. It warms a half circle from the bottom of the glass leaving the left and right side upper portion completely cold even though the heating elements cover almost the entire window. picked up a loaner X1 today and it does the same exact thing.

Has anyone noticed this or had an experience with this issue? It seems like it is a design flaw where the electric power feeding the elements is not sufficient to feed the entire length of the heating elements.

I noticed something similar yesterday morning. A perfect half moon cleared rear glass! This HAS to be normal right?

Completely normal. Frustrating, but normal.
