How to plug holes to driver's side wheel well?

What have you guys done to plug the group of factory holes in the sheet metal that lead from the driver's side engine bay into the wheel well? I'm concerned about the amount of water getting into my bay.

I have a 2014 28i, but I assume this would affect the 35i as well.

Are there any sort of filler plugs that we can put in there? I've done some searching online and found that guys have generally plugged these holes with duct tape from both sides. There must be a better solution.

I notice that at the top of the first photo below, there is a stud above the open area with no nut on it. Am I missing some sort of protective panel?

Area of concern from far away

Upon closer inspection, it appears that maybe I'm missing a trim panel on either the outside or the inside (or maybe both?) of the wheel well.

Would anyone be able to confirm?

Just checked the wheel well on our 2014 and I too have those same 4 exposed holes. So...must be intentional on BMW's part I would imagine. By looking at the surrounding area both in the well and the engine bay it doesn't appear to be any dirtier than other areas. I don't think that much water or dirt would be entering through those holes while the car is at speed.

Would be interesting to know the REASON those are there though! Perhaps something attaches to the panel on the 35i?

Thank you so much for checking. I really appreciate it. I've read online that the holes are there for the right hand drive configurations.

Here is a post from the E90 forums where they make a joke of the holes on their platform. Seem to be almost in the exact same location as ours and also same basic shape.

Like you said, there doesn't seem to be anything excessively spraying into the bay. I guess I'll just ask the dealership about it the next time I'm in for service. I'll keep you posted. Until then, if anyone finds that they do have plugs or a panel in that location, please let us know!

The best thing to do I think is like what they do for some factory holes. Aluminum (thick) with adhesive back (On both sides of the hole) it completely seals it off and resists heat.

I'm going to give this product a shot from both sides of the holes. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Auto10Sq...-/171125693409

Can be trimmed to size and description says it's waterproof. I've worked with this stuff in years past. If you heat it well, it's on for life.

Will post the results.

I did the aluminum tape last winter after I noticed salt spray all over the hoses in my engine bay. Driver's side is worst but pass. side also has a few holes to cover up too.
