New Wheels - 20 mm spacers all round possible

Hey guys, just installed my new wheels and tires. Went from style 355M with:

18x8 ET 30: 225/45/18
18x9 ET 41: 225/45/18

To:

19x8.5 ET 15: 225/40/19
19x8.5 ET 15: 255/35/19

This is pretty equal to going with stock wheels and getting 20mm spacers, for those of you who are curious how it would work.

Help me understand... Did you use spacers, or not, with your new combo? What is the backspace on the 9.5" wheels? I'm thinking of going with a square combo of 19x9.5, with 245-40/19 Michelin PSS.

+1. Why would a rim designer make a silver inner lip and then a black outer lip? Makes the wheel look small.

looking from the side it seems like there is barely enough clearance between the calipers and the wheels.

I really like the 355 8x18 and 9x18 wheels on my M Sport. I'm not changing stuff that good just to be different.

The 19's on M sport look good, too, but I'm going to lower profile 225/40r18 and 255/35r18 Michelin PSS for more grip and lighter.

I had to keep looking at pic since it looked like not seated on rim.

Hey, sorry about the confusion. I am not using spacers right now, but the wheels have an offset of 15 mm. According to the calculator on e90post, this is akin to having 21mm spacers in front and 20mm spacers in the back. The wheels are 8.5" wide actually.

Try the tire calculator in the wheel and tire forum over at e90post. It is immensely helpful in determining clearance and tire diameter.

I just went and checked and the clearance is good =) The inner silver ring is quite confusing from the pictures, it is indented slightly, but does not extend all the way back, so it does not interfere with the calipers. I couldn't tell that the silver strip was indented from the tire rack pictures unfortunately. I had to see for myself in person haha.

I do like the 355, my only gripe with them is that they seemed a bit small. If they made that style in a 19, offered in gunmetal color, it would be my dream That and I would slap some 10mm spacers up front and 15's out back and would have called it a day there.

Are you worried about the tire diameter being off? That would lead to different speedo and odo readings.

Why want to make the rear track even wider than it is right now? I need to make the front wider than currently is because I'm experiencing stability issues (body roll or whatever is called). Right now I'm debating between 18f/15r or 15f/12r on staggered 18"s M 355.

Oh interesting, with my stock 355M's I never had stability issues. The body roll was slightly more than my last E92 with sport package, but that is expected with the higher ride height. Body roll might be better dealt with using a sway bar? Oh and also, my 355M's came with a square all-season setup. Front and backs were all 225/45/18's

I like having a wider rear track because that was what I was used to on my E92. It looked better imo and didn't negatively impact the handling characteristics from what I could tell.

I need to do a research on that. Thanks for the hint!

Lowering the CG will also help. I want to eventually lower my X1, and at the same time improve handling, possibly by upgrading suspension parts. I'd like to be able to throw it around like a 700lb heavier GTI.
