Bill is such a great ambassador for the brand. BMW is lucky to have him as a driver for so long.

The F1 GTR is amazing, but it needs a bigger track to stretch it's legs.

I literally just meet Bill this weekend at Lake Havasu. He is in fact a very nice person and I enjoyed meeting him.

Typo: The F1 was the last, not latest, street-based GT car to win at Le Mans.

Great to see local boy Bill Auberlen from Redondo Beach get to drive Gordon Murray's no-holds barred supercar.

I knew at age 11 in 1992 when I first saw the prototype to the F1 that it'd be one of the most legendary supercars ever. In a time when top speeds were barely breaking 200 MPH, the F1 was said to top out at 243 MPH. Even today that is insane.

Couple that with a 670 HP (LM models) 6.1 liter BMW V12, a driver seat in the middle and looks to kill for and the entire package was something only dreams were made of. That the car came to fruition and won LeMan on it's first try is simply astounding. In my opinion, it was the first hypercar.

Fun fact: "The power to weight ratio of the F1 is the same as the P1." - Gordon Murray

The video below is a recent 10 minute interview with the man himself, Gordon Murray. It was officially published by McLaren. I trust you'll all find it very entertaining.

Wow, that F1 LM in McLaren Orange is absolutely gorgeous.

We need to pool our money, buy one, and time share it amongst ourselves.

Still my top Hero Car of all time. I know there have been more this, faster that, etc.

But as an engineer, the idea of Gordon Murray just willing this car to be, in each detail, has only been matched today by Pagani. And Horacio's focus is art, not ultimate performance. Gordon thought out every freaking part, down to drawing the diagrams for the bloody owner's manual!

My favorite story, is the infamous "engine bay bracket". Due to the insanely high speeds the car reached, the engine cover would lift slightly, and the plunger switch that activated the engine bay light would retract enough to turn the light on. Gordon's team, without consulting him, fabricated a bracket to lift the switch higher, ensuring that the light would not come on at higher speeds. It is literally a 1" square 90 of aluminum.

20 years later, it still pisses Gordon off that it is there.

Who needs a dual-clutch paddle shifter when you can change gears, heel-and-toe and rev match that fast!

Met him a few years ago at BMW CCA Ofest at Barber, with that F1. Such a down to earth easy to talk to person. One of the other team drivers spun the car out.
