xBox One: 500GB enough or is it better to get 1TB?

I'm hoping to snag a black Friday deal for my kids.
They mainly play COD, Madden and want Battlefront and Battlefield.

How big are games? Would 500GB be enought for should I be looking for a 1TB unit?

Thanks for any feedback.

The games are a lot bigger, but with the Xbox you can hook up external hard drives (I hooked up a 4TB to mine) so it doesn't matter which version of the console you get.

Go with the 1tb. I have the day one 500gb and it fills up fairly quickly if you play a few different games. I can have 4-6 installed at once, so Im constantly installing/reinstalling

Get the 1 TB version. Some games like COD take up a lot of space.

The best option is to just buy a PS4.

I too will be snagging the new XBOX One S and will most likely open her up and install a 2TB drive as I have done with my PS4.

Why not just plug in an external HD?

Running one of these on mine for the last couple years.

That would certainly simplify things! With the PS4, if you plug up anything above a 16gb flash drive, the system won't recognize all that additional space. Thus you have to manually install and format it.
if xbox one S is plug n play, that is great.

Definitely get the 1tb. Even then you may need to get an external HDD. I'm at 80% capacity with 1.5 of space, and I'm not even that avid of a gamer anymore.

The 1 TB is necessary but not needed. My 500gb maxed out with about 6 games? Needless to say, i bought a 1 TB external hard drive for more games. Xbox makes you download the whole game to the console even if you have a Disc... Each game is around 50-75gb or so.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try for the Best Buy Battle Field deal with 1TB drive and free extra controller. All the other deals I've seen are for the 500GB version.

LOL. I've got 2 PS3's at home still, but they only play the xBox360.

Yup fully plug and play with the Xbox. It formats on its own when you plug it in and then you can just transfer any content and set it up to auto save all new content directly to hdd.

Depends on the price difference. Personally, I have always bought the smaller capacity because you can always use an external HDD for increased capacity. Also, by running an external HDD (assuming you use a solid state drive), you're games will load faster, read speeds of the standard xbox drive is slow, 5400 rpm if I recall correctly...

I don't think it matters which one you buy, you will need to add an external drive in any event ...

Great advice. Is the USB port fast enough to maximize the SSD's speed?

Anyone know how hard it would be to swap out the 500gb stock drive for an SSD?

I second this. My games that I play are on the the external drive because of that reason. Only apps which are fairly small and do not have long load times are on my internal drive.

My 500 filled up far too easily. With games being up to 100 GB each, it is kind of ridiculous. I have deleted many from my console to play the new ones and then, if I want to go back, am met with a tedious install.

I should go external...
