Button for Siri...

I'm still patiently waiting for BMW to update the button on the steering wheel to activate Siri.

Until that happens I'm researching alternatives. One I discovered today is this product, http://www.drivewithsiri.com. Its basically is a garage door opener sized home button that activates Siri. MSRP is $79.00 (which is a bit much IMO) but I may order one just to give it a try.

I think this is a neat alternative for those who don't keep their phone in their front pocket.

I use Siri all the time for voice dialing, sending/replying to txt messages, calendar, etc... I know it is not perfect but it is light years ahead of BMWs voice command system IMO.

I'm sure there are others like me that would prefer to use the voice capabilities of their phone (Andriod or iOS) and I found this to be a unique solution.

Does anyone know for sure if we're due for a software update which will support this? Seems BMW doesn't update the iDrive stuff very frequently... and we wait...

I'm not super confident. There were multiple updates in 2011, 2012 and nothing for 2013.

I've been considering getting one of those as well. The BMW voice recognition is so horrible I cannot even use it. You have to go through so many prompts in order to do anything, that it would be quicker to just use the iDrive controller. The whole point of voice commands is that it should be faster. I like using Siri because a single command does what you want and you don't have to answer voice prompts for the next 2 minutes just to get something done. I also don't have to memorize certain commands I have to say, I can just say what is natural and as long as I speak English Siri can understand what I'm asking.

If you get one of these, please post here and let us all know how well it works.

I have found that you can actually jump to any command with the voice control.

so instead of
-radio
-presets
-preset 3

you can just say preset 3.

or
instead of
-navigation
-400 feet

you can just say -400 feet.

fyi
