Exclamation Ever wonder what happens when you wreck at the 'Ring ???

Ever wonder what happens when you wreck at the 'Ring ??? What happens? How does it work? How much does it cost? Do they really charge 700 euros per 100 meters of armco guard rail ? Yep... just watch...

Yes, I was stationed about 1.5 hours from there and went as much as possible. My buddy flipped his E30 touring and he had to reimburse for Armco damage, emergency response and clean crew. Plus the tow truck, etc. Ended up about $500 USD out if pocket. Thankfully no one was hurt.

$500 is cheap. IF they have to close the track it can cost you thousands of euros - plus the armco bill.

Very interesting video. Looks like a good and unedited vlog (he doesnt make it nicer or worse than it seems to be).
As for if he went to fast or not, looking at how he drives he seems like an experienced driver. The car just lost it (at first watching the vid I thought the renault gave him a little tap to the rear but thats not the case).
I'm not sure if the the straps on the gastank played a role in crashing maybe upsetting the balance of the car?. Maybe he's a good driver and bad mechanic

It looks like my worst nightmare.
But it shows one thing really well, if you go to the ring and are planning to push it with your tracktoy, be sure you're not alone but with friends.
Look at all the help he needed, getting the car from bongard salvage, even getting back to the hotel etc etc. And take emergency tools.
Can you imagine being alone, hundreds of miles from home? No friends living in the area you can easily call (if you're a foreigner)
I've learned more from this video than all the other ringvids I've watched.

Of course you can also get crashed into. (or there's oil or coolant on the track from a previous crash or a leaky dodgy car in front...)

The actual cost for closing the track, is that covered in the nordschleife small print?

Thanks for posting.

No, you ran out of patience (I did too, skipped forward). His fuel tank straps broke and the tank dropped. Side effect was that the rear brakes locked up; it's not clear from the video exactly how the tank caused that to happen.

His total cost to the Ring was ~1800 Euro, for Armco and towing.

^interesting thought.

I cant imagine him applying the foot brake at the spot of the crash (he was past the brake point for that corner if braking was needed for that corner), but only he knows if he had his foot on the brake during lockup or not.

He also points out (at 16:25) that his rear brake got a bit hot (during towing?!?) so that also might point to a stuck caliper or stuck handbrake.
Or he forgot to release the handbrake but that would be really stupid

That gen integra does use a cable actuated brake so I'd imagine that to be the most likely scenario as it was sudden rear lockup.

Very unfortunate. He seemed to be going well and behaving on track when this happened, what a way to ruin a lad's holiday.
