Knocked down a damned doe...

...on the way home this evening. I wasn't going very fast, and I simply knocked her down and she took off. It was in a residential neighborhood.

The lights and such all seem to be functioning, but the plastic covering of the front bumper is cracked by the left headlight, and there is a gap between the headlight housing and the left edge of the bumper cover.
I'll call the insurance and the dealer tomorrow; any insight anyone cares to offer?

Not much to say other than it's "Bad Luck".
Hopefully all you need is a bumper cover. DO NOT believe the Ins. adjuster if he tells you that the cover can be "repaired". In the 3 experiences that I've had with crack repairs, they all fail. It may take a few years, but it WILL fail.

HB, thanks for the tip. We'll see how it shakes out.

Sorry to hear that, I usually have bad luck with my new cars too. Most reputable body shops do a good job and can determine if a repair or replacement should be done. If you using insurance you can take it to a BMW certified body shop. If it is out of pocket then I would just look at yelp reviews to find a good one in your area.

The plan at this point is to leave the dealer handle it; reputedly they have a shop with BMW-certed techs who will know how to fix it correctly.
Talked to the adjuster today, who is to come out tomorrow.

There's an old saying on this forum..."No pics, didn't happen"

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

How un-gentlemenly.

Believe me, if I'd had the chance to stick a revolver in her ear, I would have cheerfully done so. I've hunted the King's deer most of my adult life, but with no particular prejudice.
In this case, I would have sent her to her maker with with extreme malice....
Given a little time tomorrow, I'll sum up what the adjuster proposed, but it appears that the bumper cover and the left xenon light ($$$$$$$) will be replaced.
