N20 Overboost feature in xDrive28i?

I read something weird at a website called topspeed. They claim xDrive28i has an overboost function that increases torque to 369 lb.ft for short periods of acceleration, but sDrive28i doesn't have this feature.

I am not sure where they get this information but it is the first and only time that I heard such a thing. Does anyone have further information on this topic?

Thanks,

MazdaFan

I read that before as well, but did a little research and found that it must have been a mistake in the article. The only overboost function BMW has indicated one of their cars has was in the "is" models (335is, Z4 sDrive35is, etc). And these are obviously the inline-6 models. Nothing I could turn up indicated any sort of factory overboost feature on the N20 engines. Would have been nice though!

I thought it was just a mistake too... until I saw it in some BMW literature and this Automobile article (look under Powertrain):

Hey, I have 2 track cars now: MY Mazda RX8 and my X1 s28i.

So that's why my scanguage II shows 18psi boost, then settles down to 12 psi!

Hmm...still not buying it.

I just did a quick search on Google and 369lb/ft of torque is exactly what the 6-cylinder "is" models got with the Overboost function. I can't see our 2.0T making the exact same torque from the factory as the 3.0T. I think the Automobile article is incorrect...even though I wish it was true!

Granted I think it has been proven by dyno tests that again BMW has considerably underrated the 28i engine. So I'm pretty sure we are getting more than the 258 lb/ft and 241hp it's rated at. What ever it is I love the engine!

This is what I get when I don't search the forum archives first (sorry mods!). I have apparently resurrected this same subject with a similar thread here: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1026147

But we do have new/different information in the new thread. Do any of the participants from the older thread have anything to add to the new topic?

I don't normally stumble onto the X1 board but caught this and curious. What change was introduced to permit (unlock) the overboost feature or was this always there? will the N20 in other model lines get it too?
