X1 Pricing in Canada (Expensive)

I just configured the X1 on BMW Canada, although the base price is very attractive ($38,500) but with desirable options you are looking at mid to high 40's. A fully loaded one (all packages and options) is over $51,000 before taxes.

I think it's too much for an X1. To any potential buyer go lean on options.

Trouble is, once you have had the options, you really can't go back. Mine comes to about $48,500 before PDI and taxes. Sigh.

And you live in Toronto. I can't imagine how much you are paying once everything is said and done.

Can you provide a vehicle review once you get used to the car? I'm interested in the X1.

I don't think it's any different here in Europe.

A similarily equipped x1 is more expensive than an x3 28i and is almost as expensive as the 35i.

Exactly. So why wouldn't a potential buyer look at the X3? Besides the base X3 will be getting the same motor in the near future.

My wife doesn't like the high stance of the X3. I'm not so sure that a similarly equipped X3 would be equal to an X1 -- it doesn't make any sense to me for BMW to do that. But having said that, I haven't done the math.

People who need extra space and have more cash will buy the X3 - it is considerably bigger and more spacious than the X1.

Regarding Canadian X1 prices - I've just received my X1 (needs a wash and will post a new thread with pics - promise), and trust me - it's still cheaper than in South Africa.

Yeah, I know. I couldn't believe how much the CA told us they were when we were there in the Cape at Auto Atlantic.

Because X3 is an SUV and X1 a crossover. They are two different concepts.
(Did I say that before ? )

Don't go through the X1 link. Go directly to build your car from the main page, and the X1 is available.

Click on build your own and it's in there to configure.

I haven't seen the X1 in person yet but is it just me or does the new X1 and X3 look a little feminine?

On a side note you can also build the 1M and new F12.

Don't know where you are in Canada, but there are at least two events in Toronto in the next few days for the launch of the X1 and X3 where you can see them. PM me if you want details.

X1 in canada specs say 'vented disk breaks, front'
Does this mean that they are using drums in the back? I hope not!

Thanks but I'm in Calgary and I haven't heard anything about a launch event yet.

To Rob:
I think the rear is solid disc. Drums are better suited for the Honda Fit.

I don't think either way, my X1 in mineral white looks just 'right' (my dealer-done tinting all round has worked a real treat - you'll see the photos). Do note that the Z4's exterior was designed by a lady. Also note that the X1 was meant to cater to a wider, younger audience than a 3-series saloon and a X3. And they're both equally popular among males and females.

So I can understand such comments - but the X1 doesn't look particularly girly.

Joking aside the very few X1s seen driven around the streets of Paris were usually driven by late-thirties, early-forties (good looking) women.

Same thing in Milan... Many X1s, many of them with female drivers at the wheel...

It's interesting, even though it's out here for over a year, I've literally seen about 5 X1s here. Saw a male drive yesterday. Saw a female driver on the highway a few weeks ago. There are more X5s on the road!

Could be price I don't know, I read recently that the Nissan Qashqai is selling extremely well in Germany!

I'd talk to a local dealer as they are running them now across Canada.

Nissan Cashcow sells very well here in the UK as well. Loads on the road but it is about 30% cheaper. No contest in my opinion.

PS Make that 40%. Cheaper, like for like.
