BMW X1 and 3 Series Make Short List for 2013 North American Car and Truck of the Year
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW X1 and 3 Series Make Short List for 2013 North American Car and Truck of the Year Just announced today is the short list for possible North American Car of the Year (NACTOY) winner, which will be announced at the NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show) in January. Per tradition, this list will be culled down to an even shorter finalist list prior to the show. This year's car short list features the 2013 3 Series and the 2013 X1 on the truck/utility short list. For the cars on this list that do not ultimately win, being named to the list is already a sign of distinction given the number of new cars introduced per model year. Below are the car and truck lists. 2013 NACTOY Truck/Utility short list Acura RDX Audi allroad BMW X1 Ford C-Max Ford Escape Hyundai Santa Fe Infiniti JX 35 Mazda CX-5 Nissan Pathfinder Ram 1500 2013 NACTOY Car short list BMW 3 Series Cadillac ATS Chevrolet Malibu Dodge Dart Ford Fusion Honda Accord Lincoln MKZ Nissan Altima Scion FR-S Subaru BRZ Toyota Avalon |

And in a somewhat related story, Forbes included X1 xDrive28i in their list of "6 Impressive New Cars for 2013":
"Of the dozens of vehicles I drove during IMPA Test Days, the BMW X1 was the most surprising..." http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewd...cars-for-2013/ |

Stiff competition this year - there are some very good vehicles on that list. At least half the vehicles on the utility side were on my list at one time. It will be interesting to see this shakes out.
Despite the lack of power, I think the CX-5 has a very good shot at taking it. (I think it would be a slam dunk if the diesel were available now.) I'll be surprised if the Fusion or ATS doesn't take the car title. |

CX5 is very nice but it is just the the same direction as X1. Offer most fun to drive in its class while giving class leading mpg. Except X1 engine is much more impressive than that skyactiv. However both have the problem of not having the best interior room and material in its class. Dispite all the 'fire' it catches the Escape is also impressive compare to the old model. ROFL at the X1 being categorized as a 'Truck/Utility' IMHO... It's a tall station wagon: it handles, drives and feels like a (very good) car, it's based on a car platform... it's a car!

8 of the 10 "trucks" are based on cars, small cars at that. Actually it could be 9, I can't recall if the new Pathfinder is car based. Oh yeah, the Pathfinder is the same as Infiniti JX and based on the Altima/Maxima chassis. So really it's the Dodge Ram vs a bunch of tall cars.

Um I thought the x1 was based on a 3 series floor plan (with the wheel excatly the same distance apart ... might be wrong but after jumping out of a 1 series into x1 the extra size is noticable
I must have a drive in the 28 and 35 to see how they go |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatchba..._station_wagon It's definitely no SUV (which is why I'm keeping my SUV). But most of all, the X1 is a fun car to drive, with 35i having one of the highest power:mass factors of any BMW short of the Z and M. |
