Another coolant leak thread.
Hello.
Been lurking around for a while, first time posting. Got a 2013 X35i a couple of months ago. It's been leaking coolant. So far radiator, main hoses, coolant reservoir tank and trans. cooler hoses have been replaced. The thing is that the leak is not obvious at first and after about a half hour of driving the coolant leaks out, loosing about half of the systems capacity very quickly. Any ideas what might be happening? Thanks. |

Have you checked the oil to make sure its not leaking into the oil?
Three places it can go: 1. on the ground/engine bay 2. into the oil (via the oil cooler housing youtube 3. into the combustion chamber. This appears to be pretty rare on n54/n55 motors. Options are usually head gasket, head or turbo problem, and exceptionally rare.

Coolant went to the ground. Leak was on the right of the radiator. Could notice the coolant gushing out where the hose connects to the radiator. (power steering fluid reservoir side). Car hasn't overheated, no check engine lights.
Sorry for the crappy images. |

How many miles?
Has it had the the water pump replaced? Something like that dragged happening to me... it wouldn't leak right away, just when it would activate and it turned out to be the water pump... went ahead and replaced it, as well as the thermostat and haven't had a problem since

Hello.
The car has right around 50k miles. Looks like a water pump and thermostat replacement will be done anyways. That should stop the leaks for another 50k miles. Thanks for the help. |

You may want to contact the dealer. There was a class action last month for water pumps on some vehicles, not sure if n55s are covered.

Here is the judgement. Dealers are already going them. Free for 1 year for any mileage, then after that 10yr warranty extension from original build. |
