A few weeks ago I was driving on the highway and heard a loud "wack" which sounded like a rock landed into my windshield, but when I got out and inspected, there seems to be nothing wrong. But yes, this winter has been brutal. I thought we were now in the clear with it being 60+ degrees this week, but now I hear more snow may be coming tomorrow.

Bump to this thread as we are going to finally replace our windshield.

For those who have replaced their windshield I am curious to know if you went with OEM glass or other. If other who was the mfg. and how did it turn out. I have read mixed results on non OEM glass. And my insurance wants to do the usual low ball and use non OEM glass. So is it worth the extra $250 that I am going to pay out of pocket???

I actually just had my windshield changed. I requested to have OEM Glass ; I felt that the glass would be worth having since it has lasted 43k miles and through two years of NY city and highway driving. I had the service done through safelite.

I dealt with alot of clients who went with Non-OEM glass and they always complained of wind noise after replacement. Better to just go with original glass always.

Garage List
I had to replace our windshield on a 4 month old X1 (http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1045017) and was able to get it covered via a BMW Goodwill Policy. The dealer did a nice job and I am a happy customer.

Good luck!

My X1 has now covered 90k miles and I recently went to the effort of giving it a proper clean using 0000 wire wool etc. I really wished I hadn't bothered as when I'd finished and the glass was completely clean inside and out it just highlighted how chiped the screen now is. Driving into the sun showed that the whole screen is covered in small chips and even though only 1 has required a repair visibility is reduced. My 3 previous cars from differing manufacturers never had this problem.

Always OEM until your car is 3 yrs old

Ditto...My insurance does go along with the OEM windshield, and since I'm on my 4th glass replacement I'm please with the results, but not with the windshield magnet for rocks. I should have add 0.00 deductible with my insurance coverage.
