Other X1's on the road...?

Well it took exactly a month since I picked up my X1 to see another X1 on the road. Nice to have a car that you don't see every time you get on the road. Any one else have this rare of sightings?

Los Angeles: I have had mine since 11/23 and in the next couple months I saw 4-5. Strangely, since then the only X1 I have noticed was a loaner in gym parking lot. Could tell it was loaner because the rear window had "COURTESY CAR BOB SMITH BMW" in huge white letters. Geez.

It looks as if the X1 is not quite the "hit" BMW might have hoped but I am sure it's doing well enough. Very much enjoy mine.

Looks as if Bmw sold what they imported as dealers around here dont have any? probably limited availability issues, which looks good for resale values

Had mine since August 16th, and in Pittsburgh, I've seen 3 others on the road so far, but not until the last two months.

2013 BMW X3  [5.66]
I seen a lot of X1s lately but I'm sad to see that most of them don't have the xenon which perceives it as a BMW.
I do feel really bad for Ye drivers because they were a victim of the dealers tricks

I've seen one other jet black x28 a few times and, just recently, a VO x35.

I don't have the lighting package. It would've been nice, but I thought it was overpriced for my use. Although it is characteristic, it certainly what identifies a BMW to the trained eye!

Most folks in the U.S. don't have a clue the X1 exists yet, unless they happen to be BMW drivers or by chance see one. Time and Time again from people who say something about mine is "I didn't know they made an X1"

I did not know it existed here until I went to the dealer to look at X3s. The Euro reviews I had read prior to the LCI had not been positive.

Well, it's not really useful comparing a 16d to a 28i or an 20d to a 35i...

The X1 has received very good reviews in Scandinavia, because it's a good winter car doing well on twisty roads. It's not so popular further south in Europe.

I see the rate of X1 owners growing per month as I drive around, but so far I'm the only
X1 35i M package around town, when I bought it the dealer told me I was the first in my home town according to their records.

The best part was when I went to test drive the X1 last week and the dealer was telling me how they are selling like "hotcakes". I have seen maybe one of the road. Why do salesman have to be so bad.

You presume he had unlimited hotcakes to sell.
If he had just a few, and they went quickly, he would be correct.

And with new models, ordering just a few is common enough - they don't want to fill their lot with models that might not sell.
With the X1, they come from Germany, so it's not like he can call and have more cars delivered next week.

Then there's the dearth of BMW dealers in some areas. People in areas without BMW dealers may drive quite a long way to buy their BMW. There certainly isn't one near where I live. You don't see these BMWs, because they're not anywhere near you. This is perhaps especially true for crossovers and SUVs, which are more popular outside the urban areas where the BMW dealers tend to be located.

So they may sell like hotcakes, and you still don't see many.

yea I know what you mean, but you can't tell me that's a salesman tactic with any car

When the X1 first arrived and the dealers just had the single demo cars the sales guy at the closest BMW dealer told me "It is a hot car so we are selling them all at MSRP. If you want a deal we can talk 3 series." I took them at their word and as a result they didn't get a chance to sell me one. I went to another dealer who offered to sell me one at $500 over invoice.

We have the internet now and any circumstances surrounding a particular car model can be found pretty quickly. You can find invoice cost of the vehicle and each accessory, dealer incentives, what folks are paying for them in various parts of the world, etc It just takes a little minor research. Now unless published, sales figures can be hard to come by. But a little local sleuthing like watching the X1 inventory of your local dealer(s) can tell a great deal about what they are or are not moving. I could tell my salesman was surprised when I mentioned a particular X1 had been sitting there for months because I had been watching it. So I knew there was something funky with it. I know with my local dealers they don't stock many X1s maybe a total of 10-12 variations of 28 and 35is

I've had mine for 6 weeks now. Rochester NY area. I've seen exactly 1. In a parking lot. I've seen zero on the road, including on my trip to Miami and back. I swear in Miami every car I saw was a 5 or 7 series...

I saw three this weekend locally and was in London last week and saw quite a few. I was more surprised at how many F20's we saw, they were everywhere, much more common than F30's.

I read BMW news about a record February for sales that mentioned strong sales of the X1, but I think those were world-wide numbers. I suspect it is selling well for BMW USA, but inventory hasn't been high. I just checked a few Los Angeles dealers and compared to the last time I checked, there are more in stock. Low teens at most. But you had better want white, black, gray or silver.

I passed one today, white, looked pretty basic and was coming out of a neighborhood.

I think US sales will be fine as the car gets more press and noticed by the public.
