Bought an 14 X1 35i - Few questions..

I purchased from a non BMW dealer so hoping to get some help here prior to going to BMW for answers.

First question:
I believe the car has push to start capability, but if I press the ignition without key I get no response at all. Could this be that my keys are not programmed?

Second question:
I'm the 3rd owner. I saw on the carfax the car was sold as a CPO. Then there is some paperwork (letter to previous owner) in the glovebox showing the car in on the certified preowned plan effective 3/2015. Does this warranty transfer to my ownership and does it become effective at the end of the factory lease?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Car details are 2014 Le Mans Blue with 22,000 miles priced at $22k. I believe it has an M option?

Make sure you are pressing and holding the brake before you push the start/stop button.

If the key was not programmed to the car, you wouldn't even be able to remote unlock/lock.

Make sure your key battery is good. If not, you can replace it easily with a 3V circular battery.

Is it possible it does not have push to start? I've not been in a BMW without it so I don't know what the ignitions look like in those. This one looks like my e90 and when i press the button in my e90 without pressing the brake the car responds. This x1 does nothing so I'm thinking it doesn't have the option which would suck, lol.

I think being able to start it without putting the key in is a comfort access feature. If you can unlock the door without using the key (just by grabbing the handle) it has comfort access. If it doesn't you unlock, you lack that feature. Someone else can chime in if I'm mistaken.

Without Comfort access option you will need to have the fob inserted into the car. This could be coded off if the car has the option. Second, Your foot needs to be depressing the brake on USA models to start, but this also can be coded off. You can search your Vin for options installed such as Comfort access. http://www.bimmer.work/ and check your fob battery.

I think you're confusing push start with what BMW calls comfort access. Yes, 100% the car is push to start. If you do not have comfort access you will need to slide the key into the slot in order to start the accessories or engine.

Lemans blue is a Msport exclusive option, at least on these cars, so you do have the Msport package. The CPO should be good for two years after the manufacture warranty is finished. I suggest you either do a vin look up to determine your build date or contact BMW to find out when the original warranty is finished (mine is up in 16 days).

**Edit** Got sidetracked and never hit submit.

Thanks so much for all the input. Totally forgot my car has comfort access and that's what the X1 does not have. So yes the push to start works, but what wasn't happening was keyless push to start.

Just saying - it is possible that you have comfort access, but a fob that’s not programmed for it. I have 3 keys - 2 will do comfort access, the third won’t - but it will unlock the car (push button) and start the car (insert in slot).

You can look up if your car has Comfort Access or not using the link above from KWX1, but also in my experience the Comfort Access door handles have the ridges on the door handle where you put your thumb to lock the car. Non Comfort Access does not have these ridges.

That is how your car/fobs are coded and it can be changed. A Carly or INPA can handle that. My Carly when I use it has up to 4 Fobs to option coding for the same car.

You should have Comfort Access. You will see ridges on the top of the door handle where your thumb would normally rest when grabbing the door handle. I recently bought my car used and the dealership explained this to me that Comfort Access came with every car but was originally an option and not every car had it enabled. I think it will cost a couple hundred bucks to enable it or it was enabled at the factory if the original buyer checked off that option. Good luck.

I didn’t realize that Carly could code a remote - I’ll check it out. Thanks!

Yeah I don't have it. Comfort Access is listed as option for my E90 and not for the X1 and it doesn't have the ridge on the handle so doesn't appear that it can be enabled. Well at least not door entry. Gonna be a major adjustment. I've nearly left the key in the ignition 10 times already

As if 2014 CPO is not automatically transferred to the next owner. Since you got the car from non bmw dealership you don’t have cpo.

You are correct. I called BMW and CPO's purchased after 1/1/2014 only transfer if the transaction is person to person. Sucks for me, but I do have few months of factory warranty left and I purchased an extended warranty out to 60k miles for 5 years.

It does not actually code the remote, It codes the car for when you use that particular remote.

So you are saying the CPO is not in effect yet since it kicks in after the original warranty expires. There might be a loophole for you to transfer the CPO with only an inspection fee at a bmw dealership.

Yes that's what I'm saying. If there is a loop hole I'd love to know what it is. BMW was certainly not offering any tips.

? I know there were changes in their policy, but *BMW* CPO and warranty do transfer, at least until a point. Bought my 2014 in July 2017, warranty and CPO intact, and both applied to me.

Is it possible to code a non comfort access X1 to start without the remote in the ignition? My comfort access remote is the exact same remote as the non ca remote so maybe it's possible.
