Well this is great news! Does the ecu have to be out of the car for this flash? More details and dyno info would be great! How can you do the flash and no one else could figure it out?

Yup...has to be benched flashed with the newer ECUs.

It has to be removed the first time around to access a port on the ecu board next to the processor. After that we run a wire outside of the box and tape it behind the ecu. I want eventually just make a solid wire from that ecu port to an empty in on that same connector. I have made a harness to plug into the DME after all that to do the flashing and any upgrades for the future.

We just finished up a Mercedes AMG GTS the other day(such a sick car.) And of course..the secret to this...have an Asian guy(red shirt) haha

On a serious note, he has been tuning stock DME's for a little under 15 years already. He has all the software to do pretty much anything with a stock ECU. Some stuff we usually invest and buy a new ECU, pin her our and start poking around, or get a friend with a car and offer up a free tune. And honestly, this is some complicated stuff. When the E70 X5 M came out, took him a week to figure it out and getting tuned. With the stock DME stuff, there is sooo much to learn and tweak, it's insane.

I can give you a small run down of what we have done so far

Obviously more boost(20PSI target now)
The Valvetronic is remapped to stay open past 5K RPM, this will eliminate the dyno power decrease above that rpm.
Rear 02 delete for down pipe
VANOS re map
All ignition tables have been slightly remapped, we are going to mess with this some more soon
Fuel tables re mapped
water pump and cooling fan remapped for better performance

We can also do this for the N20 cars if anyone is interested.

Sounds like you are going to put a few tuners out of business 😀

I'd be interested in the 02 shut off. That goddamn light really annoys me!

Ran a 1:43 on club course at Mid Ohio with plenty of room for improvement. Turning in early and carrying too much speed in some corners causing understeer and killing exit speed.

I think this car can do a high 1:41 on club course on NT01 with a better driver. I am discovering I really suck at braking.

Also, Hawk DTC-70 are not for the X1. They vaporized entirely in one day. Stick with Performance Friction.

Here is me and a GT4 playing while getting passed by a cup car, GTR race car with aero, cage, etc, 991 GT3, stripped Z06. Instructor group with MOR PCA. These guys can drive compared to other PCA groups I have been with, probably because Mid Ohio is their home track.

I've got an N20 and I would love to hear more details on the reflash. I've been looking at the JB4 but I like the idea of going straight to the computer.

Would your flash be able to do something similar as the different maps that the JB4 does? (Sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm very new to all of this)

Also while on the subject of flashing, has anyone heard of anything like the Alpina transmission flash for the ZF8?

Awesome, keep it up!

He should have pointed you by at some point, unless you let him know you didn't want it. You can only catch someone so many times...

You're going to be really limited on finding a flash tune. I think these guys will do it...

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1119949

But that's a couple hour, pull the ECU out, bench flash kinda thing, so you won't be able to change maps on the fly like you would if Cobb had a product out.

You're sorta limited to a JB4, but that's not a bad thing.

Not really up on the N20, so someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Not that I know of, and you don't need it!

I actually know how to defeat the hardware protection of the ECU the same way that those tuners do. I just don't have anyone local that has a license for ECU Explorer or one of the tuning programs. But I can definitely to the hardware modification to the ECU.

Thanks PrematureApex!

Yeah I figured JB4 would be plenty, just thought a direct ECU flash would be a little more reliable and then I wouldn't have all the extra wires, but that's just being picky :-)

Why do you say I don't need the transmission flash? I've heard really good things about the B3 flash for the 6AT...

Just that your transmission is great even in stock form, as far as shift speed/intuitiveness, etc. Much, much better than the 6AT.

Good to know. I haven't heard too many comparisons between them so good to hear.

Thanks for the tips!

The 8 speed in the n20 upshifts nicely but the downshift could certainly use some tweaking as it can really upset the car and causes the rear to get too light and unsettled when driving aggressively and it's too abrupt when driving normally.

I'll do manual downshifts when it's just me in the car, but they're too jarring for my passengers. Sometimes I think my DSG was smoother.

The transmission tuning for the 8 speed zf on our n20 X1 feels nothing but sluggish. If any of you have driven either the m235i/228i you will feel how much smoother the 8zf transmission is on those upshifts/downshifts for those cars, feels almost dct like. Not sure if it is possible, but I would like to see a tuner attempt to flash the tranny software for those cars onto the n20 X1.

The 8sp ZF is super fast but have read reports of rough downshifting. Haven't experienced this myself however.

Have been talking to a few people and am seriously considering doing One Lap of America. If we did it we would be going for not only a class win (against BMWs factory team with factory race driver in a X6M), but for a top 10 overall placement.

We would be doing the standard stuff like Pure stage 2 with port injection, but we also have a few DIY tricks up our sleeve that we think can make a difference. Let's see if anyone can guess:

arduino + yaw sensor + canbus telemetry + carbon fiber = ???

I think it would be pretty neat if a X1 could finish top 10 in an event like this. Based on laptimes of some of the previous tracks we would be right in the mix. And this year is good for us as between me and my co driver we have experience on every track except for Pitt Race.

Some sort of active aero I'm assuming...
