X 1 Space Saver?

Hello All,

Does anyone know if there is a space saver spare wheel that will do the job for my X 1. I have just taken my run flats off.

Many thanks,

Nick

Hi. there´s no space for a spare tyre... You have to buy the "Mobility Set". It´s a Kit consisting of pump, tyre gel, gloves and valve adapters.

Why did you change the ROF for normal tyres?

I will do the same thing when my 2 sets of tyres will need a change.
The cost of the tires, protection of the suspension and the confort of regular tyres imo beat the disconfort of mobility set and the stability of the RFT.

Cheers!

Thanks Guys,
I have abandoned runflat as I drive about 30k miles a year, some of which are on rough ground. They can't take the punishment as well as regular tyres. I am going to sell the two I have remaining to off set the cost of the bew.

I know there isn't a spacesaver available for the X1 but with the fact that the wheels are 17"- 7.5J with aPCD 5/120 - offset ET of 34 and a centre bore of 72.6, I wondered if there would be a doner vehicle that has a space saver based on the wheel speck of the X1. I am resigned to the fact it will have to go in the boot, I don't carry too much!

Just be aware changing Tyres/Wheels in the Uk means informing your insurer. I've considered changing, but insurer wants an extra £65 a year and more for winter tyres... even the RFT ones!

I am running on normal tire for the winter as well. I just got a container of tire sealant (Slime brand name) and a small compressor. Of course, it will not work for major blow out but it might help.

I changed to winters which are not run-flat, so bought a few cans of Holts Tyreweld. Hopefully I don't get a puncture and have to try this stuff out! But from what I've heard it will do the trick.

Would be great, if anyone can share if they ever have a blow out non runflat tire.
I know most of the Europe BMW have option to opt out the Runflat. They would give you the mobility set.
Here in N-America, we don't get that options.

Hello All, new to the site. Have a 2010 Morrocan Brown 23D, with 20000Kms, and RFT. Whilst doing 100km/hr smooth highway the left front tyre blew. Not a big problem. Drove to the nearest tyre fitting place to find they do not stock 225/r45/18 in RFT. In fact nobody does on the Gold Coast of Australia. Nearest tyre was Sydney, 900km's away. Not even the local BMW centre had them. So I called BMW roadside assist. They can't help me, see the local BMW centre. To keep going on my vacation, I've had to fit standard 225's to the front and keep the RFT 255 on the back. No amount of tyre goo would fill a hole 70mm long on the shoulder between the tread and side wall.
So if you want to leave the smooth roads of Europe and see anything away from the city in Australia or Canada or US or Scotland, get rid of the RFT's They could leave you stranded, and BMW will not help. Get a space saver, a full size and a top box but get rid of RFT's.
You have been warned.
That feels better.

I found out today that BMW does indeed have a emergency spare tire kit for X1. However, the parts/service dept I was talking to was not sure if the mini spare will fit properly in the trunk area underneath the cargo floor.

Can you be more specific? You are talking about the emergency kit (compressor, foam, etc)?

No spare wheel would fit in the truck under the cargo floor, you would have to carry one + Jack and wheel brace in the trunk or in a roof box ..

If you are gonna mount a non-RFT on the OEM BMW wheels, I strongly suggest that you also get aftermarket wheels, unless you get a "STAR" rated non RFT's. Only mount a "STAR" rated tire, whether RFT or non-RFT on an OEM BMW wheel. I do not know whether this is true on a non-NHTSA country, i.e. outside US.

It fits perfectly in the boot and is a breeze to change when there is a flat.
