Somewhat confused - automatic shifter knob and auto start/stop

I just ordered a 2013 BMW X1 Sport Line, sDrive28i, USA spec.

However, I'm a little confused about the automatic shifter knob and the auto start/stop feature controls.

When I went in to test drive, all they had available to test was an xDrive35i, which was fine because I'm switching out of a 2012 328i, so I'm familiar with the 4-cylinder engine.

But, I noticed the shifter knob was still the older version, like the 2011-and-older 328, where the gear indicators are to the left of the knob instead of integrated into the knob itself.

The images I'm seeing online, as well as the images presented during the "Build Your Own" configurator on the BMW website show the newer shifter knob, like the one on the 2012 328.

Here's a comparison:

Versus -

Size: 331.5 KB

I realize the second picture is from an "M" X1, but the xDrive35i that I drove at the dealership was not an "M" and it still had the older-style shifter.

It's not a deal breaker... it's just a knob... but I really like the newer shifter and I'm used to it from my 2012 328i.

Lastly, how does one control the auto start/stop in the sDrive28i? I believe the xDrive35i does not have auto S/S. In my 328i, there's a button above the start/stop button that enables/disables the auto start/stop, but I don't see anything like that in the X1 photos.

Any info anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Garage List
The 35i gets the old shifter, while the 28i gets the new shifter.

GREAT! That's what I suspected.

Anyone know about the auto start/stop?

Yes, xDrive35i does not have auto start/stop. Your sDrive28i has auto start/stop feature with a button to enable/disable it.
By the way, the Sport Line comes with paddle shifter for free. It is a standalone option ($120) for other lines. But, the paddle shifter does not go with Sport Line by default. You need go to "Option" to select it with no charge.
I am considering of Sport Line as well. I like the wheel and sport seat. But, I do not want sport suspension, because the normal suspension is already stiff enough for me. Congratulations on your new X1 sDrive28i.

Hmmmm.... The Sport Line I configured has the Sport Steering Wheel with Paddle Shifters as a $120 option (which I selected).

The M Sport is free for the paddle shifters; the sport line is extra. I don't see anywhere that the Sport line gets free upgrade to paddle shifters.

Where did you test drive the 35i?

Ah okay. I was going to stop by on Sunday to take a look. I think they have a Midnight Blue right?

I'm from the Tampa area too.

Oh cool!

I think the one I tested was black... I could be wrong. I know they had a 28i in blue, but I think someone was buying that one (otherwise I would have tested that one instead since it's more along the lines of the one I'll be buying).

The paddle shifter is a "hidden" feature (NC) for Sport Line. The Order Guide does not mention it. You can go to www.bmwusa.com to build a Sport Line. Then, go to "Option" and select "Sport Steering Wheel with Paddle Shifters". It shows $0.0 for Paddle Shifters option.

I must be doing something wrong...

Are you talking about the 35? Because I did exactly as you stated, but I still see a charge for the Sport Steering Wheel with Paddles on a sDrive28.

you guys do realize in the X1 35i it is the older 6 spd auto gearbox hence older gear stifter and in the X1 28i its the newer 8 spd auto gearbox hence new gear shifter.

Are you sure you ordered Sport Line? No matter it is 28i or 35i, the Sport Steering Wheel with Paddle Shifters is NC (No Charge) for M Sport Line and Sport Line only. It is $120 option for base model and X Line.

On the online builder you can select the Sport Line first; then you can add the paddles for NC. Strange...
