Alternate X1 Exterior Colours

Hi guys

Quick question, and not sure if the European members may be able to help out more so as the X1 isn't as new for you guys (I live in Australia).

Am wondering if you know if its possible to have an exterior colour (not listed for the X1) that are available on other BMWs.

I think Imperior Blue Metallic (avail for the 5series and 7series) would look awesome on the X1. Am ordering Deep Sea Blue which is similar, and maybe too late to change, but wondering if any of you guys know.

Is it possible to get the X1 in Imperial Blue Metallic? Would you have to pay through the nose?

Thanks so much

Don't think so.
The X1 doesn't yet appear on the "Individual" line, where you usually get that kind of customization options. (At least not when I was deciding mine, a couple months ago.)

As the production line matures, it should eventually allow for it.

...and if and when individual colors become available, isn't the additional cost like $3500USD?

Man, you would really have to be hard pressed for a specific color to pay that amount of money.

Didnt realise it would cost that much, even with Individual. You're right though; in the end I wouldn't pay that much just for an exterior colour

I looked at the Tasman Green and it actually reminds me of the Suzuki Swift Pewter Grey which I really really like. Anyone know when the s18i or the s20d is arriving in Aus?

I checked around and it doesn't seem too much difference between the models other than the obvious x drive system and bigger engines so I'm going to pick the smaller engine option without the x drive system and load it with options.

There are 2 dealerships in Brisbane (Fortitude Valley and Springwood) so atleast there is a little competition here compared to Perth (poor Nedlands!). Any thoughts on the smaller engine?

Options:
Tasman Green
Business Sat nav
Sunroof
323 18" wheels
X-line pack
Harmon/Kardon sound system

Going to wait until March 2011 to order it.

My first test drive was in a SDrive 1.8 and I can tell you I was amazed by the engine. Plenty of grunt for normal city driving and good acceleration within speed limits. Up until now I have always been a committed petrolhead but the BMW diesels are really very good. Since then I have also driven the 2.0 and the 2.3 with the latter being very quick. I have chosen to go XDrive 2.0 because of the wet/winter conditions here and in 4x4 I think the extra power of the 2.0 comes in handy. In the UK the 2.3 adds an auto box which really bumps up the price, with extras you are easily into new 520d SE estate territory. So in a nutshell I would say the SDrive 1.8 is a good buy.

Tasman - great colour, only seen one but went really well with the XLine package
Sat Nav - Waste of money in my opinion but I am sure other will differ. Very expensive here in the UK and as a Sat Nav my Garmin out performed the one in the test car.
X-line pack - Check locally but here the roof rails are an extra on top of pack. You need them if you plan to use OEM roof racks.
18" wheels - Look great but are a harder ride. I opted for 17" rather as by back cannot handle the hard rides anymore. My Mini Cooper is hard enough!

Only thing I would say is have a look at the extended storage packs as well as the auto lights/wipers (comes here as part of a Comfort Pack). These extras are relatively cheap but do make quite a difference. Another personal thing is Xenons, apart from the safety aspect I think they give the car a visual lift as well.

I think the thing with the Sat Nav is that it's all part of the iDrive options - We didn't do it this time, but we had it on the E60 and it was good - no extra wires dangling around, all built in and instantly there. I'd have it again, but if it was £1.5k just for the sake of Sat Nav or £150 for a Garmin - I think the Garmin wins....

We wanted silver roof rails so you have to get the X line pack. I think you can get the black roof rails on their own. You can still use roof racks with feet though, (BMW issue) as they fit into the holes where the roof rails fit (so I was told)

We have extended storage - little things, (but for £100 ish) like extra power socket in the boot, seat back mesh pockets, mesh pocket and straps in the boot - worthwhile for minimal cost.
Xenons - wish we'd gone for although I still haven't used the car at night!!!
Comfort pack with auto wipers.... good...... auto dim rear view mirror - essential !

Hey Astroboy87

Nice choice on the Tasman green. I had thought about it myself, but wasn't sure if I liked it enough to choose it for my own X1.

The sDrive 2.0d is available now. I think the sDrive 1.8i is available by September; not sure about the exact date but am sure its this year and when you order it in March, it should definitely be available.

Regarding the bigger engines/xDrive, it all depends on what you want your X1 for. I've never gone off road and don't anticipate I'll need to so I don't require xDrive.

Regarding the s1.8i (combined fuel efficiency of 8.3L/100kms) and s2.0d (5.3L/100kms), the fuel efficiency may not seem a whole lot, but because the s2.0d is below 7L/100kms it will allow you a 30% discount on extras and avoid the luxury car tax (see negelixin's post in the thread entitled BMW X1 in Australia). You can't get these discounts if you get the s1.8i

Might be worth doing the math regarding what extras you end up getting in the end; overall it may be cheaper to get the s20.d than the s1.8i. Food for thought

Also regarding roof racks, in your post mario486, roof racks are standard albeit in black, here in Aus, unless you get the 2.3d or 2.5i versions in which they come in chrome standard

Are they standard on an sDrive - In the UK they are standard on the xDrive but not the 2WD

I misread Astroboys87 post, thought he was referring to the 1.8d rather than the 1.8i. Here in the UK we only have a choice of three diesels, 1.8/2.0/2.3d, actually all 2.0's with different power outputs/turbos's etc. I have asked BMW UK on a few occasions when a petrol will be introduced but they keep on saying never! However....not having driven the 1.8i I still think the 2.0d would be a better option as long as the price difference is not too great. I am surprised by the fuel consumption as quoted by boxx on the 1.8i, big difference. Torque will be quite a lot down on the 1.8i as well but as you say it depends on what you use it for. Me, 70% city, 20% motorway and 10% light off-road. Add a very wet climate and snow in winter so very much looking forward to having a 4x4 again, albeit a soft roader.

Yep, roof racks come as standard in all models, from 1.8i through to 2.5i
We don't have 1.d 8here in Aus; only 1.8i. Definitely as mario486 says, it all depends on what you use/want your X1 for, and varies between countries (predominantly because of weather and motorways).
There's an ~ $4k difference between 1.8i and 2.0d here, which may be more worthwhile in terms of cost from better fuel efficiency, depending on how long you have your X1 for. All depends on your own individual situation of course

Just for interest, what are the quoted performance figures for the 1.8i?

I think the s18i is 110kW which I'd say is standard for a car this size. The Dualis (Qashqai) has 102kW by comparison. I'll have to check out the 30% discount that was mentioned - I wasn't aware of it so I'll have to ask the dealer. I'm moving down to Hunter Valley at the start of next year for work at the mines as a geo so I just need it to get me to work (highway driving mostly) and around the town.

I was considering the Design package for $1,800 it's great value and a friend mentioned that the yellow/black piping (totally not a fan but I see what they were trying to do with the dark wave wood..) can be easily replaced by an upholsterer for like $100.

Does anyone know what the driveaway prices are for the s18i auto and the s20d auto? Sites just list them around the 45k and 51k mark but it's not driveaway. I don't want to pay anymore than 60k since it's my first car out of Uni.

Boxx - can you put the link to the thread from Negelixin I can't seem to find it and I tried to google about the 30% discount on options for fuel-efficient cars but I can't find it. Cheers.

Here are the quoted figures for the lower range X1s (at least here in Aus):

sDrive18i
Max output: 110/6400 (kW/rpm)
Accel 0-100: 9.7
Fuel consumption: City 11.3, Highway 6.4, Combined 8.2 (l per 100 kms)

sDrive20d
Max output: 130/4000 (kW/rpm)
Accel 0-100: 8.1
Fuel consumption: City 6.4, Highway 4.7, Combined 5.3 (l per 100 kms)

xDrive20d
Max output: 130/4000 (kW/rpm)
Accel 0-100: 8.4
Fuel consumption: City 7.0, Highway 5.1, Combined 5.8 (l per 100 kms)

Drive away/on road prices from the price list I have (here in South Aus)
sDrive18i: 50,233 (manual), 52,521 (auto)
sDrive20d: 56,265 (manual), 58,553 (auto)
xDrive20d: 59,801 (manual), 62,089 (auto)
xDrive25i: 65,356 (auto only)
XDrive23d: 66,645 (auto only)

Also Astroboy87, do you mean the Design Cool Elegance (i.e. oyster leather sport seats, wood trim and anthracite headliner)? It's actually $5000, but $1800 unfortunately.

In another thread (BMW X1 in Australia) that shows the options pricing list, the design cool elegance packacge is listed as $1,800 including GST, posted by Andret. If it's 5k then I'm not going to bother - I'll just get the leather for 2k.

Oh that sucks - I thought I was getting a great deal. Why is it listed as $1800 but then says $5,000? I'm confused why they would do it this way. What does the $1,800 mean?

Looking at those performance figures I would say that the 2.0d is well worth the extra price. Not mentioned is the torque but I would think the difference between the two would be even greater.

We also have the Design Package here in the UK, different prices though, but I opted instead for black leather/Alu trim/sport/electric seats. Came to the about the same price.

Might even just opt for the sport seats - Nedlands mentioned that the standard seats aren't that good. I'm thinking of just keeping the sensatec seats instead of opting for the Leather package. If it feels the same I'd rather get another option.

Further details re max torque:
sDrive18i: 200/3600 Nm/rpm
sDrive20d: 350/1750-3000 Nm/rpm
xDrive20d: 350/1750-3000 Nm/rpm

Yeah the price list can be deceptive. You really need to read the fine print. We all know BMW overcharges; they probably are listing it that way to make the overcharging less obvious.
