Now in the real world me with my stock times 13.6 1/4 and para running 12.1 1/4 mile with just $2000 in bolt ons, which i just bought those bolt ons for my x1 shows clearly the potential of the bmw x1 35i. even the suspension is different from the 28i m sport to the 35i m sport for example the rear camber bolts in the 35i m sport are the same as the bmw 1m. sorry 28i
If a 911 can't beat an x1 with standard suspension around the track then it is a pretty poor 911 driver. But yes if you are racing get the 35. But on the street the 28 is more than powerful enough. If all that you car about is speed get a bike. My old Ducati would beat your 12.1 without even trying. You can spend 11000 on a Japanesee sport bike and pass your x1 like it was sitting still.

You can't throw a computer desk in the back of your Ducati.

You can say what you'd like, but I was the fastest car in Blue group in the PCA today. There is no doubt that a 911 is a better track car than the X1, but there is also no doubt that in my second track day ever, I ran a 1:48 with stock suspension in my X1 - faster than every single 911 in Green and Blue groups. A better driver could undoubtedly shave a few more seconds off of that. And there is certainly no other crossover on earth that can do this - check out the data, the X1 is pulling a sustained 1G+ in turns. That's nuts for stock suspension.

When you say you have stock suspension do you mean you have the \ "m" suspension? or do you mean you have the standard suspension?

It's the stock M-sport suspension.

The 911 is clearly a superior car to the X1 on the track, you'd have to be nuts to argue otherwise. But it's not such a huge difference that amateur drivers in an X1 can't be competitive around a circuit in HPDE's. I have tons of video proving just that. Pick a Porsche you want to see give me a point by - 991, Cayman S, 911 RS, 997 GT3 - I'll post it up. Put two pro drivers of equal skill in the two cars and the Porsche will obviously pull away - but the difference will not be as large as you suspect it to be. The X1 is a lifted 335xi with a BETTER suspension than the 335xi has. Slightly modified 335xi's are track monsters.

911's haven't been purpose built sports cars in a decade. They are GT's with the sole exception of the GT3 and GT2.

FWIW, if I could have any car on earth it would be the GT3 right now.

I agree with most of your points.

Only area I differ and its just a matter of opinion is 911's are purposely built sports cars. I should probably put an asterisk next to it and refer to the GT3, RS models

The M is lowered. You aren't racing around a track on a standard suspension and keeping up with 911s. No matter what engine you put in the car. I haven't ridden the M version so I can't comment on that.

The M suspension is not lowered, it's just stiffer. You can deny it all you want but I posted video so....

Actually, the M sports are 10mm lower than the standard X1.

Also unless this is a professional race I assume the only person racing was you. A lot of people take their cars to track day not to race them but to legally ride very fast. They are not pushing a car that is over 100k to the limit.

I was just speaking from driving an old Porsche and driving my X1 to think that I could handle curves as well as even old Porsche is ridiculous.

I never said a X1 handles curves as well as a Porsche - I was more highlighting the X1's prowess by illustrating that it is not so far off from the benchmark (a Porsche) that it's competitive around a track with a 911 with amateur drivers. My videos simply would not be possible with any other crossover/SUV on the market, excepting perhaps a Porsche one.

Nobody - including me - was "racing", hence the point by's. But virtually everyone there was running telemetry systems and trying to achieve their best laptimes. Nobody is out there just leisurely lapping and enjoying the views, they wouldn't be in the intermediate group if they were.

Also, my X1 with 50k cap cost was worth more than the majority of Porsche's there. There are a lot more sub-50k cars than 100k cars at PCA events. The only cars worth more are 997 TT, 997 GT3, the new Cayman and Boxter S cars, and the 991. Those are vastly outnumbered by 996, old-gen caymans, 944's, etc.

This is what ive been waiting for, bam bam there is a curve off of interstate 95 that we all take are cars on to see how fast we can do it in. right to the edge pushing it, my old e46 m3 ps2s could do 41mph my old audi s4 b5 lowered and every thing done to it best was 43mph the a friend in his zo6 did it in 47 mph. the bmw x1 35i stock 45mph now lowered and cambered still stock tires 47mph. bam bam by by Porsche and then once i and my street tires ps2s oh my.
para once you add the m3 suspension is going to be sick...

You have a M version which you have further lowered. The problem with the standard X1 is the higher weight which severely effects how fast you can hit a corner. Your is probably lower than a standard hatchback. Which is way off the argument. Getting the standard X1 with the larger engine isn't going to have you beat a competent driver in a 911. Like I have said I haven't driven the M which totally removes the crossover pretense. So I can't comment on it. And I don't think any dealers have any in a lot waiting for me to take one out for a test.

Need to let the Stig drive both the 911 and the X1 35i...

It is quite funny seeing this debate with a guy who can track his X1 vs a guy who has a 28 and generally regrets his purchase...

kind of like Mario Karts...
