2015 Model Year Start Date & Ordering Guide

My sales guy told me today that February is the last production month for the 2014 x1 models, and that he'll likely have allocations and pricing info for March production of 2015 models in the first week of February.

Figured prospective x1 buyers (like myself) browsing this forum might like to know this info. In my mind, it's definitely worth it to wait another few weeks to order.

UPDATE: Ordering guide attached.

Sounds like utter BS, as 2015 will still be a full model year for the e84, so no reason to deviate for the 2014 model year, production of which would typically last until July, with the August shut-down for vacations, and production resumption in September as the next model year. This is BMW's standard operating procedure.

While I do not follow production schedules closely we ordered our X1 last Feb it was one of the first 2014 that came off the line with productions starting March 2014. We picked it up the first week in May. As such, what scottomfg has written seems accurate based on last year.

+1 - We were checking out the X1 at local dealers in May of last year. They were already showing 2014 models. They said it had been at least a month since they started receiving 2014 year models from Germany. I believe some other models get launched later in the year, but for the X1 it happens much sooner.

Thanks for the feedback guys, the schedule for the 2015 x1 does seem to line up pretty well with last years.

Another strong indicator is the minor update which is scheduled for "Spring" (http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=923577). If production starts in March, then cars would be to customers mid-to-end May? That fits right in the Spring timeline (March 20th - June 21st). Though I haven't read any direct source stating the minor update starts with the 2015 model year production.

Anyway, my only source is my local BMW dealer, who I assume got the info from BMW since he was quite specific--but we all know dealers are also the source of tons of BS. We'll know for sure soon enough, first week of February isn't too far away.

Sounds about right. I ordered mine in March and it was a 2014.

Perhaps. I say that because we picked ours up at BMW Welt. So we had it for a few weeks then had to wait another 9 weeks to park it in the garage. So I am not sure when they might actually be at the dealer.

Depends which line you're interested in. If some interior changes and a higher price tag is what you prefer, then go ahead and wait. My 2014 is scheduled for production 1st week of Feb and I'm fine with that.

Oddly enough we got a better deal with a 2014 than we would have with a 2013. So it certainly pays to compare.

Did you do a factory order or take one out of dealer inventory?

Yeah, it definitely comes down to what you value more, though I wouldn't call them 'interior changes,' I think I'd call them 'interior improvements' in the equation I'm using to balance them against a slightly higher cost.

Since I'd be ordering a car either way (as opposed to picking up a 2014 off the lot), I imagine there would be zero difference in terms of the deal I was able to negotiate with the dealer. But, it's true, right now there are $1k of incentives on ordering a 2014 model that more than likely will not be available for the order of a 2015 model. However, looking at last years model year pricing changes, the cost of the configuration I want dropped about $900 in terms of lower package prices, and more things being included in packages, vs. a couple hundred dollar increase in MSRP. There is no way to know what similar changes will happen this time, but I imagine there will be *something* to make the car more attractive as it grows a little longer in tooth. So, maybe I could save a $1k off sale price on a 2014 vs. 2015, but in reality I expect it to be more around $500 when everything is accounted for.

And since I will be leasing, it's really more like $190 more to go 2015 MY (38% of $500), which amounts to about $5.50 per month with interest.

And for me, since this will be our family car, and road trip car, that we'll spend many, many hundreds of hours in, the minor interior improvements, and particularly the upgraded Connected Drive features, are easily worth an extra $5.50 a month on a $500ish a month lease. If nothing else, that's a pretty cheap insurance rate on making sure I won't have future regrets at not having waited to get the new goodies.

That's my thinking, so far. BTW, planning to order x28i xLine, Lighting, Cold Weather, Ultimate, H/K, Paddles, Auto High Beems, with Valencia* and Terra with Fineline Bay.

*Still trying to convince the wife (this will be her daily driver) to go Valencia Orange. If I fail, then Mineral Grey.

FWIW, if you place an order at an agreed price and for whatever reason BMW institutes a price increase, you're price protected. This happened when I placed the order for the E92 in Jan/Feb 2007 and the car entered production beginning of March, which when mid-year/model year changes(like the E84) occur. There was a price increase but the contract price was honored. There may be a caveat here in that if there is not any allocation for 2014 MY vehicles when you go place your order, you will have to order a 2015 and be subjected to any change in pricing. IMHO, they may very well increase the MSRP but that might be offset with any incentives that will be offered. Good reason for this is that once in awhile, someone comes into the showroom and says
"Ooooh, what a pretty car. I'll take it." without ever looking at the Monroney or asking how much it is.

You are seeing what we did and took advantage of getting when we ordered our 2104.

If you wait a couple of weeks the 2015 dealer pricing should be out. Then you can compare. 2014 vs 2015 pricing.

Yes, we did. The hardest part was letting the wife drive it off of the show floor. She let me drive it the next day :-).

We did ED for the E90 & PCD for the E92. Best ways to take delivery of a BMW!

Got the order and pricing guide for the 2015 x1 today. Hopefully it is attached to this post as intended. Looks like my previous info was correct and factory will start making these March 1st.

Only differences I can spot are:

1) MSRP bumped up $100
2) Sparkling Brown Metallic paint option
3) Lines have highlight trim options

Standard features and packages and their prices appear to have not changed.

Of course, some of the new refinements, etc for 2015 will not show up in the order guide.

I am not saying to buy a 2015 model year, in fact I think I would just for the better resale value down the road! but the enhancements to ConnectedDrive updates sound like a software update that would be a simple update to the 2013 and 2014 model years vehicles. The 2014 model year X1 has the older CIC navigation system vs. the NBT which is delivered with the F series BMW models. I really don't think BMW is switching to NBT for the 2015 model. If they were they would highlight features such as touchpad iDrive controller, Advanced Real time traffic, optional wifi, ect. In short I'd bet the Nav/iDrive/ConnectedDrive update is software only.

Thanks for the info! Is BMW good with the updates? This is my first and all my previous cars were a total no-go in terms of updates on the HU--whatever you get when you buy the car is what you have for life, unless you start looking at third party help, etc etc. And I agree, I think there is a 0% chance 2015 gets upgraded to NBT HU.

Updates are easy. You can determine if there is an update to ConnectedDrive by visiting www.bmw.com/update. There you enter the last 7 digits of VIN and you will see what updates are available. This site also describes out to perform the update which basically involved downloading the software to a USB memory stick and selecting Software update from the iDrive menu.

The updates are to support new mobile devices and to support new BMW Apps for ConnectedDrive.

It wasn't BMW's standard operation procedure for the X1 last year. We ordered our2014 in early February 2013 (production of 2013 models had stopped) and picked the car up at BMW Welt in early April.
