Man, I'm getting anxious! Ordered May 28th and I still don't even have a VIN yet. This wait is epic. Could be worse, my city is mostly underwater, but at least my worksite is nice and sunny

thats strange i ordered on june 17 and i recived a vin on june 20th

Still no VIN, but I got word on Saturday that my car had left the factory and is expected to arrive sometime near the end of July.

The VIN is assigned before production starts. They cannot possibly know that the car has left the factory without also knowing its VIN.

If you Canadians have access to the same online tools as people in these states, you should be able to look up the VIN yourself from the production number, or at least the last 7 digits of it.
If not, I would ask some pointed question about why you haven't gotten a VIN, like if they actually ordered it according to your specs, or are trying to trade cars or quotas with some other dealer to get something mostly matching. Without the VIN, you cannot check that the car really will match what you ordered until it's there. And at that time, it's much harder to say no, which the dealers well know.

Um, no. Driving the X1 is orders of magnitude more fun than waiting for it. Trust me; I waited for half a year until I got what I ordered. And it was no fun, but driving it is everything I wanted and much more.

Mine should be almost in Halifax by now. I'm going to call Monday to get the VIN. Half the problem is I haven't asked them for it. But, I will need it for insurance and what not.

Canadian orders are much more rare, hence the longer wait time I have as compared to you guys down south.

Ordered on 6/5, production began on 6/7, completed on 6/15, finally got a boat on 7/3. Dealer said ETA date is 7/24 to port. How do I find out which boat is it on?

If it goes on a Wallenius Lines / Wilh. Wilhelmsen ship, you can search for the VIN on http://www.2wglobal.com/ - enter it as Cargo ID on the Track and Trace page.
If not, you have to ask your dealer - they can look it up.

Thanks, I don't have the VIN, just a production number. Emailed the dealer, waiting for a reply with the VIN and while boat is it on. I actually called up BMW North America yesterday, and apparently they have no information on anything. How disappointing.

Called the dealer earlier today, just got an email with my VIN. Now to find a decoder to see if it's built right
