SCDA Driving events
Has anyone participated in any of these driving events from Sports Car Driving Association (SCDA)? I'm really interested in going to events coming up in April at Lime Rock and also to Watkins Glenn's in the summer.

Haven't run with that particular group, but you'll have a blast.
You don't need to worry about tires, power, etc. But get proper brakes. They can ruin your day in a hurry. At a minimum, you need to put suitable brake pads on your car. If you're even the least bit quick and/or aggressive, you'll overheat/fade and eventually burn through the stock pads in short order. Potentially in a matter of a few laps. Normally one might be able to get away with just swapping in decent front pads, but with the e-diffs on these cars, the rears killed slaughtered as well. You can probably use a tweener pad if this is your first rodeo; Cool Carbons, Ferodo DS2500s, EBC yellows, maybe Porterfield R4S, or something along those lines. As use stickier tires, gain speed, add power, etc. you may have to move onto something more dedicated. But cross that bridge when you get there. Enjoy!

When I went back to stock pads, I had a small panic moment the first time I went for the brakes because my brain was so used to hearing the squeal, it assumed no squeal = no brakes |

I am currently running hawk hps 5.0 pads on slotted rotors. Hopefully these should up well. They do have a nice bite but I have not had the chance to really heat them up.
I would like to get light weight wheels without braking the bank; not just for track use but also for my own sporty driving Last edited by Drlu23; 02-10-2016 at 08:24 PM.. |
