Question BMW Apps

Hello All...

I recently purchased a '13 X1 xDrive35i with the Cold Weather, Premium, Technology packages. The vehicle has Navi and I can see "ConnectedDrive" in the iDrive menu. However, I am unable to see any of the BMW Apps. I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7. Can someone please help me understand what, if anything, I may be doing wrong? Are there issues with iOS 7 or the iPhone 5? Am I missing some HW to make this functionality work?

Thanks in advance!

TrueRedX1 - To get BMW Apps to work you must install the BMW Connected App from the Apple App Store and have the app open on your iPhone.

Hello tax, I should have mentioned that I have downloaded the app and have upgraded to the latest USB software. I start the app then plug my phone in to the USB under the climate control and when I navigate to connecteddrive I do not see anything related to apps. Thanks!

I believe in 2013, you had to also have BMW Apps as an option, in addition to the Nav Tech package...That is how my 2013 3.5i is configured... Do a vin check at bmwvin.com to see if you have BMW Apps in addition to the nav/tech package.

Thanks cwickberg! I do not see "BMW Apps" listed... so that makes sense why they would not be working...

Is retro-fit an option?

Thanks again!

i do not not if it is retro fit... AFAIK, the "connected" side of BMW is not as good as others... It is rather limited in the US and more available in the EU

I appreciate the info cwickberg!

FWIW, the Google's says it is possible to retrofit. Bimmer-Tech lists a 6NR ConnectedDrive Retrofit option for $500.25 (link below) + install?

Thanks again for the help!

I would advise against using bmw apps.. Insanely annoying and not worth the retrofit!!! It's annoying, say youre listening to a radio show on tunein radio, someone calls or you want to check something else on your phone? The app closes turning of your music and u must reopen the app again and research for what youre listening to.

Unless your phone will just sit there and not get touched the entire trip, and u are listening to one station, then its fine.

Good info, thanks.

FWIW in 2014 the apps come standard as part of the tech. pkg. It was actually fun when we picked our X1 up at Welt. The guy was explaining the apps and the wife whips out her phone and says here it is ready to go. He laughs when he sees the X1 play list.
