Alternative to Z4 rear Bump Stop
Hi,
I Australia my local dealer wants $99.00 each plus 3-5 weeks delivery from Germany for Z4 rear bump stops. I was hoping someone might have come across a more readily available alternative. It is to be used on my newly acquired B6s with H&R springs. Thanks, |

Just trim your stock stops like everyone else?
Also, probably a good idea to trim the front Bilstein stops as well.

Just lop off the first segment, that way you'll still be able to use the stock dust covers. No bottoming them out at all.

No, trim the first segment of the softer lower end that the dust boot attaches to. You can still slip the dust boot over the (new) lowest segment after trimming.

For those "on car trimmers", are there any tricks to getting the plastic protector back over the bump stop once cut?
Mine are fighting me all the way. |

Why didn't you trim it when you had it out? Or did you just do the springs (in which case, you'll probably pull it apart soon enough when you see how bad the stock shocks/struts are on the H&Rs )?

I cut the rear bumper stops while they were still mounted in the car... was switching winter wheels back to my Volks for the spring/summer so it only took a few minutes.
It's very easy to cut the bump stop and remove... then you'll need to cut 2 half inch slits on opposing sides of the dust boot. I used a Drexel with cutting wheel and it went well. The slits help you to squeeze the boot to expand it and clear the larger bump stop size. |

^^^Good idea.
I basically had to put all of my weight on the stop to get it into the boot after trimming...so doing that on the car would be very, very hard.

I got them by placing a zip tie around the bump stop budge and sliding the cover on. Once they are most of the way on I cut the tie and slipped the cover over.
