Thumbs up My BMW X1 has finally arrived

Ok I'm a newbie to these forums. Was a member of the e60.net forums due to my ownership of 2 E60's since 2005. Prior to the E60's I owned 2 E36 BM's.

The X1 that I've just taken delivery of replaces a car that's quite a different beast altogether. It was an '08 E60 M5. I loved that car, but in my area it became a bit of a waste of power. Was too tricky to park due to spaces in my area just not being big enough. Also, it was my wife's daily driver and was just inpractical in terms of fuel economy (avg 9mpg). So the brief was smaller, but still enough room for the kids. And better economy.

I picked it up Saturday just gone. I ordered it totally blind bar the odd pic you could find on the net. I put the order in prior to it being on bmw.co.uk website. When I arrived at the dealership and saw it in the flesh for the first time, I was very pleasantly surprised. I spec'd mine up with little care for the cost (added £11k to sticker), as I didn't want to come down from the M5 to a totally basic model.

Brief thoughts: The 204hp 2ltr TT engine is surprisingly quick. Drive is very smooth. Cabin space surprisingly roomy. Cabin materials are a bit on the cheap side compared with my M5, but that was expected and still very good imo.

I attach a pic taken on iPhone (sorry) from when I picked up from the dealership. Also attach a pic of the ride it replaces.

Congrats! The X1 looks excellent in black.

Please share with us your ownership experience after driving it for a few days.

couple more pics .. again, apologies for the fact that they're taken on my iPhone. As soon as we have a brighter day over here, I will take them with the SLR.

Great looking ride... those are my favorite wheels I for the X1, great choice.

Out of curiosity, did you snag any pics of that blue M3 in the background of the first pic? I think it is one of those "Edition" models or whatever.

the half chrome trim surrounding the windows is kind of odd that it doesnt go all the way around. I would think it would be better looking if it was all black or all chrome. Other than that it is a sweet looking auto.

Great looking car, but how could you go from an M5 to an X1? None the less saw these in Europe and they are truly stunning in real life.

well cong. to the owner,i hope i get my x1 in about 5 or 6 yrs...and only thing i dont like is that ˝cut˝ chrome line, its just stupid from design point of view...but its popular these days..so i have to think how to continue the batten..

Congrats. I am going through some very similar thoughts as the power my M5 just seems to be a waste on the streets here and I find myself constantly fighting within. I am hoping that the next 5 (F10) will have a nice 6 speed V8 TT that I can enjoy ...
