Possibly considering x1

My current car lease ends late 2017.

I am looking to move from sedan to small crossover .

I am considering vehicles such as Q5, rdx, x3 2018.

However I also like the x1.

When I look at options I don't see blind spot or surround view.

Maybe I don't need those desires.

What are your impressions of owning this vehicle.

Many of us here have the older style of X1 2015 and below (E84). Try the F48 forums.
For me, I don't like the 2016+ look of the X1.

Never had a wish for blind spot monitoring. The car does have some large blind spots, but I'd rather turn my head. Same for surround view - nice in a parking lot, but the mirrors are more than enough.

I think no matter what you get, you'll get used to it - at least from this perspective. So be sure you're happy with the other aspects of the car. For instance - there a lot in willing to pass up for the driving experience of this car.

I think that unless you are a marque shopper, the VW Sportwagon may be an attractive, and way less expensive, car.

Funny you mentioned that, we did x-shop vw golf wagon. However my wife couldn't get pass the prosaic design. It drove pretty well.... about the same level of fwd sportiness as our mazda6 gt wagon. Alas, the x1 just gives us a smile each time we drive it. Besides when we optioned the veedub (HighLine) out the price wasn't that far from a similarly equipped x1. I do like the Android Auto/Car Play stuff. I'd probably go CX5 vs golf wagon.

I will have to try out all the smaller crossovers

My past cars have been Honda, Toyota, and Acura.

I like the newer BMW looks and may give it a try next time

Keep in mind the new X1 (2016+) is based on a Mini Countryman chassis, so you won't get the sage driving dynamics as on the older generation which drives more like a sedan. Try out both.

OP, The E84 generation X1 for me is potentially polarizing because it is "old school". I love it because it has hydraulic steering, N55 and "old school" BMW suspension tuning. It is sort of like a budget Macan S in my eyes.

On the other hand, if you want all of the driver assist tech, I think this is the wrong car for you, and the F48 X1 generation would be better for you. (personally, I don't like it. The base seats were very uncomfortable. I am reserving final judgement until I try the sports seat version)

I recently had an LCI F25 X3 loaner and it was a GREAT cruiser. I would get this instead of the F48 X1 for sure, if I wanted a car with the modern "infotainment" technology.

Lastly, are you able to do a dual motor Tesla? I think that's pretty much the answer for a commuter with driver assist tech
