New Member 2013 E84 N55 Issues

Hello all members I am new to the forum and new to BMW I have gotten a white E84 N55 with 94k miles. It is the M Sport package it’s a nice car.

I am having 2 current issues as of now 1st issue is a coolant leak it’s coming from the driver side front section.

Also I have oil leaking from the engine oil cap. I bought a new cap but still seeps out. This cap is not the filter cap.

Lastly I have a restraint system malfunction. Airbag light is on and seat belt light is on.

Any and all help is appreciated on a path going forward. Thanks

Welcome!

Coolant leak: Any signs on any of the hoses from the engine bay? Particularly the overflow line that runs to the expansion tank from the radiator hose? Could also be your mickey mouse flange going? The gasket on the oil cooler that piggy backs onto the oil filter housing is also a potential. If not, my guess is the radiator or radiator drain plug/sleeve but more info would help.

Oil leak: Any sign of cracking or deforming of the valve cover itself?

Welcome, you picked up a great car! Good luck with the coolant leak. My expansion tanks started leaking around 60k miles, but so far (knock on wood) at 65k miles my original radiator is still holding up. Some people have had horrible luck with leaky oem radiators. No other coolant leaks so far.

Also, the valve cover tends to start leaking on n55. Mine started leaking in the high 50k's I think. The replacement started leaking within a year, but thankfully I had the stealership replace it originally so the 2nd one got replaced for free under the dealer's warranty.

Oh yeah, water pumps tend to break also on n55.

I can pretty much guarantee you this is a failed radiator. I've gone through 3. They fail at the seam of the core and plastic end tanks. If you plan on keeping this car, do yourself a favor and put in the CSF radiator- much more effective than OEM and fully aluminum. See the thread on it here https://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/show...1489928&page=2

For the coolant leak !
Replace the bmw coolant reservoir and the Cap and you are done ! this is very known issue for N55, this happened to mine X1 N55 too.

Watch for Oil Housing gasket leaks, you need to get it done in time too, worse case scenario is Rod Bearings do fail on this N55 Engine, the Timing Chain Guide fails on N20 Engine xdrive28i.
You have to change your Transmission Fluid as well, i'm 100% sure it will fail if you don't ! BMW Engine built in Germany has some technical issues, very poor material and quality control, the rest is fine, like they have awesome Suspension from M-Performance team and best Steering system etc.

I came from LEXUS F-sport performance, i just want to bring back BMW M-performance to life ! BMW makes great car but ENGINE need improvement.
