Comparison of the light output: http://www.bimmian.com/Interior-Xeno...-BMW-E84-X1#10
ORIGINAL XENON FILAMENT KITS - Not LED bulbs, but blue colored normal bulbs.
XENON LED 2.0 KIT - LED bulbs only.
XENON ULTIMATE LED KIT - LED bulbs and LED modules.

One thing is bugging me: ERROR FREE. Since interior lights are not monitored by the car that shouldn't be even mentioned. Probably that is just for customer assurance and there's no resistor embedded in the bulbs/modules. They are also way overpriced in my opinion and the kit with less bulbs (without sun roof) is listed as more expensive(?!).

Okay, I bit the bullet and ordered a set of 13 LEDs from Bimmian.com, but they do not come with directions or even where to place them in the car.

As you can see in the picture:
a) 2 covered (footwell lights?)
b) 1 larger covered
c) 3 wedge, unidirectional
d) 4 wedge, flat
e) 1 smaller festoon
f) 2 largeere festoons

Would one of the smart folks venture a guess as to where each of the 13 bulbs would go in the car?

a) 2 covered (footwell lights?) Don't you have LED footwells?
b) 1 larger covered - trunk area
c) 3 wedge, unidirectional - front overhead
d) 4 wedge, flat - two rear overhead (assuming there's a panoramic roof)
e) 1 smaller festoon - glove box
f) 2 largeere festoons - behind visors

This is my guess.

Yes they have two bulbs each. I used one flat and one directional though.

I just replaced the 8 wedge bulbs (3 front overhead, 4 rear overhead, 1 trunk) with Osram LEDriving Premium White LED Light 168/194/2825 1W wedge bulbs. They look really good and seem pretty bright.

the bulbs can be really hard to get a good grab on (rear in particular), especially to orient on re-installation. I snugged (but not too snug) up a zip tie as a bulb grabber tool

Thanks for the input. I got the job done. The rear passenger courtesy lights were the most troublesome, both removing and putting back in. All the rest were as you named them and were easy Peezy

More practical than ever

I guess this is dredging up an awfully old thread and maybe most people that care at all have already figured this out on their own; but as long as I'm on my first post tear I'll add this:

With the wild increase in LED availability and drop in price over the past several months, this mod is now trivially cheap and easy. You can pick up all the LED modules for your car on eBay or the like for just a few cents/per lamp. I think my total outlay to do my 7-bulb config was about USD$4. Most of the modules are T10 socket of various head shapes (most flat, some torch) with the glove box and some other points using 36mm festoon depending on your options equipped (visor, footwell, etc. if equipped). In the end, I'm not so sure I prefer the hard white light of the LEDs to the soft yellow of the incandescent OEM bulbs, but you can choose practically any color LEDs you want, and the decreased current draw and heat alone was worth the $ in my book.

Yeah I found the LEDs to be a little too harsh color wise, need to pick up a set of warm whites just haven't gotten around to it.

Wonder if anyone considered going all red or any other color?

Basically, there are three pieces hooked together, Plastic cover, white housing and black metal. You have to pry careful to see the white housing spring clip that is attached to the black metals and you have to use some force in the front facing windshield for the spring clip to unhook. Look very carefully to see the white housing clip. Don't pry on the black metal. Let me know if you still can't figure it out.
