Ordering an M Sport tomorrow - options

Tomorrow I plan to place an order for a 2014 X1 M Sport. Still considering options. Any comments are welcome. I currently have a Cashmere Silver 135i with BMW Performance Suspension, M3 subframe bushings, and Michelin PSS non-RF tires. The lease is expiring, and I can't wait for the M235i to come out. So I'm opting for the X1 M Sport. I'm not doing track days much anymore (only one day in the past two years).

I probably will get the 35i rather than the 28i. I drove a standard 28i, and I liked the engine OK. The transmission was good. But I really didn't like the brakes. If the BMW Performance brakes are an option, I could go for that. But I don't see them listed as an option on the BMW website. The 35i won't get as good fuel economy, but the power is great. When I drove the standard version, I thought the transmission was OK, although I liked the 8 speed better. The brakes, however, felt like my 135i. With the options I will add, I'm not sure there will be that much difference in weight between the 28i and the 35i, although mileage definitely will differ.

Exterior:
I haven't seen Lemans Blue in person, but it looks quite bright online. I usually like deep blue colors, but not sure I like it on the X1. Glacier White is a possibility, although a bit boring. Don't like gray. Could go with the Orange. It's a bit of a statement. But I saw one in person, and it actually looked really good and not too screaming. Probably will stay with 18" 355 wheels and performance tires. Considering the 19" performance wheels/tires, but I'm worried about both ride and wheel damage on rough New England roads.

Interior:
Probably will go with Nevada Beige leather. I like the Black, but in a 540i I had, the black was really hot in the summer (needed to carry a towel with me if I had shorts on). Don't like Red. Think I'll get aluminum trim, which is what I have in my 135i. And I'll get paddle shifters.

Options:
Lighting Package

Premium Package - Not sure about this. It seems like a lot of money for what you get. I didn't get it with my 135i, and I'm happy without it. However, if I get the 28i M Sport, it doesn't come with the moonroof, which I'd like to have. But the package is $3950! If I get the 35i, I don't know that there is enough here to pay $2400. I'm not sure if getting the package means I don't need to pay $1450 for leather. If so, then the net is only $950. At that price, I would get it.

Heated Front Seats

Harmon Kardon Sound - Not sure about this. I really like good sounding music, but I've heard mixed reviews, specifically about the bass being too boomy. The standard stereo in my 135i is OK - not great, but OK. I don't know if the standard stereo in the X1 is the same or a lower grade stereo. Any feedback?

Servotronic is now standard on both the 28i and the 35i, so I don't need to worry about that.

Any suggestions or feedback?

I really wanted Glacier Silver when I ordered but it wasn't available with M Sport so I went for Mineral White. I actually love the Mineral white and it looks great with Beige interior because its got a slight gold sheen to it. I thought it would be hard to keep clean but its really not bad except the rear end shows dirt. Go for Premium package, just in resale value alone its worth it as well as comfort access. I have a E93 335 so my wife didn't care about the engine since its hers but the 2.0 is pretty quick.

I ordered a 35i with the Ultimate package, HK and heated seats - in Lemans Blue with the black interior. VERY happy with the color combo - and personally dislike the beige interiors that I have seen that are a couple years old. I plan to have 3M Crystalline tint on the side and back windows next week (lightest tint but gets decent sun protection) - which will help with the black interior. The HK can be a little bass heavy but then again I seriously did not care for the base system (weak and tinny comes to mind).

If you are leasing and can justify to yourself the fuel costs, do the 35i - SO worth it for the power!

BE X, What kind of mileage are you getting with the 35i? And how do you like the 6 speed automatic?

I decided to check every option box. I figure what are a few extra thousand in this price range so I would definitely recommend the Premium package at the very least. On the 35 you don't need the lighting package either. I'd get the HK system if sound is important, otherwise you'll wish you had. Love the power of the 35 over the 28.

The blue with beige interior is a beautiful combo.

Good luck with your decisions.

Where did you guys see the servotronic is standard? BMWUSA is an extra $250. The CA told me it's extra.

I am ordering an X28MSPORT X1, white/beige, still on the fence about the HK stereo. I think the x28 is plenty fast for 90% city traffic driving.

It was actually posted by ///jbeck in your suspension thread. It was the first I heard of it.

I am only on my second tank of fuel - odometer turned over 500 miles this week.
My average speed is generally about 40 mph - some interstate (70-85 mph), some divided hwy (50-60 mph), some two lane (45-60 Mph) and a fair amount of suburban streets (25-50 mph)
1st tank - only 18.5 (pretty sure the dealer used regular or mid-grade and E10 - using eco-pro on the steady speed driving area)
2nd tank - about half way thru and getting about 22.5 mpg (using the eco-pro some) - but with 100% gas and 91 octane (www.pure-gas.org)

If I were to buy it again, I would go with white. I hate white, but I hate even more how the plastic parts on the car are white anyhow, and the paint cracks and chips all on its own (no exerior damage), exposing the white plastic underneath.
The dealer won't fix it, even with the paint protection plan, "cause it's not caused by bird droppings or tree sap".

And yes, 18" is bad enough if you go anywhere near the Springfield area, where paving was something that happened when Clinton was president.

Other hints: "BMW Apps" isn't just software, as the sales page leads you to believe. It is also wiring for the center console. And without it, you still get the cell phone tray which pretty much prevents you from using the center console from storage in any meaningful way, and you can't even charge your phone there.

The dark crosshatch aluminum is nice, but it gets wicked hot in the sun.

Thanks for all the suggestions/comments. Appreciated. I took my 135i in for service this morning, and they gave me an X1 28i for a loaner. Not an M Sport, but I still will have a chance to drive it around today to get a feel for it.

Regarding the Servotronic, there was an update a few weeks ago that made it standard on all X1 28i models - both two wheel and four wheel drive. It's on the build sheet that was sent to me.

Grovsnus, I didn't quite understand your comment about the BMW Apps. What wiring are you referring to? I'm assuming you are saying I might as well get it because the center console is pretty worthless even without it. Correct? Also, aside from the paint chips, do you like the Lemans color on the car? Did you get black or beige interior?

I love my beige interior. Everybody picks black, I have another black car, I used to have a Jaguar with white interior and I love light interiors. Beige just gives you that serenity feeling and with my bronze metallic it is just perfect. It is a very nice interior.

I will get the HK stereo. Mine is fully loaded and I loved everything about it.
Good luck!

Living in South Carolina black interior is not an option. I wish M Sport had a few options for interiors. My E93 has saddle which is great, I might have even gone red but black is too hot and the carpet always shows dirt, lint, dust and everything.

There's wiring for phones/ipods going from the stereo to the center console, which is only installed if you choose "BMW Apps". But even without it, you get a phone tray which you can't use even if you purchase one of the expensive model-specific phone brackets, because you lack the wiring.
Due to how it's constructed, it's useless for holding small things like coins and pens - they'll get stuck, or fall out. You can cram a pocket size pack of Kleenex in it, and that's it.

The compartment under the (useless without BMW apps) phone tray has what looks like a cup holder, but is storage for the external cup holder. It has a wide slot in the bottom which makes it less than ideal for storage, as small things (coins, guitar picks, keys) will fall down the slot and into parts of the car you can't get to.

I got the Coral Red interior, and love it.
Apart from the paint on the plastic parts flaking off, I love the LeMans blue. It gets a teal sheen to it in sunlight, and a purple sheen to it at night. I certainly think it looks much better than The Other Car that comes in bright blue (Subaru WRX):

Grovsnus, Do you know if I need the accessory "BMW Apple iPhone Media / BMW APPS Version Snap In Adapters?" It says in the build sheet that it is necessary to take advantage of BMW APPS. But it seems odd that it's not already included in the Technology Package.
