3.5 Shifter Replacement
Anyone replace the shifter in a 3.5 with the one that looks like the one in 2.8?

I have the BMW Performance shift knob and the matching e brake handle... nice Alcantara feel and the silver looks nice... just wish the silver was brushed to match the dash pieces...I think this is the part# 25162153758, it is about $90 and the same for the e brake handle. |

It's not higher spec'd in terms of the trans. And OP...stop calling them 3.5 and 2.8! Either say 3.0l/2.0l, or 35/28 Last edited by PrematureApex; 04-27-2015 at 12:27 PM.. |

I have these in my X1 as well as alcantara center section of M sport steering wheel
Shift Knob, 25162153758 http://www.ecstuning.com/ES264311/ E-Brake handle, 34402153755, the ebrake handle fits, but the alcantara boot doesn't fit the X1. http://www.ecstuning.com/ES264401/?g...FdgOgQodXRcApw |

You can pull the 35i gear knob right up and off, and put another one in place. You'll lose the button that protects against going to reverse[*], and there won't be any electronics to hook up like on the 28i, but otherwise, most knobs will do fine.
I like the standard knob, except for wishing the plastic on it was leather, like on the handbrake. Not alcantara, which is plastic too (fake suede). [*]: If your transmission breaks, good luck proving to BMW that this wasn't a contributing cause. And insurance companies might have a say too. |
