600 miles new car for 1000 miles trip?

My daughter's new s281 just got little over 600 miles, is it ok to take it for a 1000 miles trip (95% freeway driving) since I assume it is still in the "break-in" period?

It's fine, 600 is well into the break in. Which arguably isn't necessary anyway. Traffic is so bad everywhere, I doubt in the first couple hundred miles she'll see any long-range constant speed cruising.

I might be inclined to change the oil now, before she leaves, but a first break-in change at 1600 or 2k isn't bad either.

arguably it's th ebest thing for the car, very little load on the engine, just don't floor it.

That's actually very good for break in. Constant temperature and low rpms. Don't change the oil before. If you want to keep the car ling run change the oil at 3000 miles

I never heard of oil change on my s28i until 10k miles.

I changed it to Mobil 1 0w40 at 5k miles and analyzed oil.

The sample showed almost no metal like some breakin's on other cars.

I know BMW keeps changing their mind about oil changes, but the oil they use is very good, and I'll go 10k easily on my next BMW if they don't require it earlier.

Oil and engine is good, just change when BMW tells you for warranty.

?

Just about every recommended break in involves little to no constant RPM driving, like you see on the highway. You want to seat the rings in with varying RPM/temps, etc. Obviously, that was the OP's concern mentioning a long road trip.

And the really anal guys will always make a first oil change around 1k, removing any break in metals, before going the full oil change interval.

yes, I am worry about the constant cruise on freeway might not be that good for "break-in".

And the really, really anal guys never follow BMW's horrendous intervals.
