2013 production ends in Feb, 2014 begins in March

EDIT Thread title should say "2013 production ends in Feb, 2014 begins in March"

Just FYI, I was in talking to my dealer this week, debating on an X3 or X1, and he mentioned they had just received notice that week that the 2013 X1's production ends in February and the 2014 model production will start in March and make it to the US around the beginning of June.

Sounds like production downtime is just days so changes can't be too significant. He said it won't likely be until January when they find out what has changed but hopefully someone here might be able to give us a heads up sooner than that.

Heard the same thing here too, I'm doing ED and it's thrown a wrench in things as you can't schedule an ED after February yet. Worst thing is I have no idea what may change and if I don't like the changes I have very little time left to schedule an ED, and it's during a time of year that's not warm to visit during.

How soon might we hear what's changing in the 2014's?

I'm considering an x28 and this news makes me wonder if I should try and wait. Wait not to get the 2014, but to get a better deal on the 2013. Does anyone have thoughts on that?

It could be complicated by the fact that, while speaking to the dealer yesterday, it sounded like I'd have to order from the factor (whether I go x28i with winter package only or with ZMP+heated seats).

No dealers have much inventory so I doubt they want to deal on something there going to sell soon anyway. I know they are in a tight race to beat out Mercedes for No 1 premium brand for 2012 so the last two weeks in Dec maybe BMW will give the dealers some promo money. I have a pretty small dealer locally and I know he has sold at least 6 already and probably more (just followed the inventory on his site).

Yikes, okay. The x28 I went to drive on Saturday was gone by the time I got up there. There was a loaded x35 that I drove instead (I drove a 328i M sport, too, just (a) for fun and (b) to assess the 4-cylinder/8-speed/EcoPro combo).

Considering what you say, do you think there's a strategy play to be made? I could wait, and hope the promo money comes along, at risk of the inventory being even sparser, or bargain the best I can now, and order exactly the car I want . . .Thanks.

I went to the dealer today and they sold another one. It depends on where you live and if you have several dealers or really big dealers. I look at the Hendrick inventory in Charlotte since he's one of the biggest in the country and I think he only has a couple so I doubt if you'll find much inventory anywhere on X1's. I doubt if your going to get more than $2K off unless you find a dealer really needing sales. It's always best to get to a dealer the last of the month and if you can risk it the last of Dec this year should be great if you can find a dealer with 4 or 5 which is doubtful. If I were buying I'd find one Nov 29 make a low offer and hope for a call back on Nov 30 the last day.

Several dealers in southern California have 9 to 13 of them listed in stock on their web sites, but who knows if that is up to date?

I can vouch that Shelly BMW has a large inventory of X1s, including several M-Sports with no paddles that I'm sure they are desperate to move.

Thanks, "nospam!" I may want an M-sport, but have no use for paddles, so that sounds like an opportunity. Unfortunately, their web site is lousy, so it is difficult to determine how each of their 32 X1s are equipped.

I can't send you PM, I guess you don't have enough posts yet. Reach out to Paul S at Shelly BMW, (888) 405-2102. If you can PM, give me your email and I'll give you his direct contact info (or Shelly's receptionist can give it to you). Paul gave me a no nonsense price without having to negotiate (lower than everywhere else in OC).

I just browsed to Shelly's site and Paul Shin is on the chat right now.
