Usually... at night... thats the only things that you can see...
I find it actually being one of the best features that I love, no more morons blind me through my rear and side mirrors. |

I think it depends how much other ambient or artificial light is around. I find the autodimming feature fine on dark open roads but too dark on our twilight at midnight (I am at 56 degrees N) or streetlamp lit highways around the city.

As far as Iknow you can't 'turn off' an autodim, the same way you can't make a regular mirror an autodim. I like the feature. Have it on my 320d, and I think it adjusts just fine to rear blinding headlights or sunlight...

Yeah you can.
Just buy the cheapest autodim off ebay, I bought an E46 one, complete plug and play. Undo the two side mouldings that hide the connector to the windscreen. Twist the mirror 90° Unplug cable Plug new one in and put back together. Cost me £29 and came looking new. |

One thing, in the UK all come with alarms and hence have the clown nose that flashes when you lock it.
If you don't have the alarm/clown nose then you need to buy a cable, it is around $35 and crimps into the power going to the lights in the head lining and gives you the plug you need for your new mirror. |

Rain sensor is on the windscreen, mirror goes over the top.
Not having an alarm means you will probably have to buy the cable. Having the alarm means you have the power and cable needed already. |
