How to get wheels flush with the fenders
I've searched over 5 pages of threads trying to find my answer and couldn't so I am posting a new thread. Apologies if this has been covered before. I am trying to figure out what is required in order to get wheels on a lowered X1 to look flush with the fender. There is a wide lip on the fenders of our cars and I am wondering how people get their wheels to fit without rubbing.
Do you have to dremel the lip? Is it do-able and is there a DIY on the best way to do this? I am planning on buying a set of 19" summer wheels/tires for my car and just want to figure out what needs to be done in order to get the best fitment and look. Thanks in advance. It's difficult to tell how it's lowered but here is a pic of my car for reference

Often, folks accomplish this using wheel spacers or wider wheels and tires. I originally used spacers and OEM wheels on my e90 before swapping them out for much wider Apex wheels with no spacers.

I get that. The issue is with the lip on the fenders. It is about 1.5" wide. If you push the wheels out to be flush with the edge of the fender, it seems it would rub on the lip. I am wondering if people who are running spacers are having issues with rubbing on lowered cars or if they are cutting the lip with a dremel or something else.

They won't. Unless you're lowering the car a ton. On H&Rs, for example, you can run them flush and they won't rub. The top of the wheel gets tucked into the fender a bit under compression. Plus, as you lower, you'll add negative camber, tucking the top of the tire even further.

Based on your picture, your car looks great now. I was going to lower mine, but it's already about a foot shorter than an X3. My wife hates driving my car because it's too low. (stock)

Haven't checked yet. I might be buying a new set of wheels this weekend. If I do, I will put them on and take the opportunity to check the springs. It is definitely lowered, just don't know how exactly.

The arrow is the middle metal tap that will need to be removed or bend upwards. I highlighted the areas that will rub. I removed all the plastic up to the metal lip. About a 1/4"-3/8" plastic before you get to the metal lip. Hopefully the picture helps you
