engine random ticking noise, timing chain?

I have this strange noise that sounds like hitting a tin can with a spoon at random times noticeable at idle. in the video from around 3sec to 12 sec you can hear it. notice im not talking about the consistent injector noise but the high pitch tick at random intervals. Could this be the chain? should I be concerned? Please help with any ideas what to check before risking some kind of engine failure.

I have over 100k miles on the car but it was under waranty and bmw serviced up until now under extended dealer warranty. The previous owner even bought his tires from the dealer for god sake.

Definitely post on the F series forums for this one. Doesn't sound too significant, but you'll get a lot more traffic/input from the 328 guys.

Do you hear a high pitch noise when you rev the car? That's the most common symptom of a timing chain problem.

Open up oil cap and you can see chain and plastic tensioner.

Without engine running is chain tight?

Insurance? Get new chain out of BMW before it lunches engine.
