Cayman's a great car. But you have to compare it with the way it comes from the factory, not with tens of thousands of dollars of modifications on a $70,000 car. Heck, you can now even get a GT3 for around the price of a new Cayman.

Right now, if it was between a new Cayman or a used Audi R8 4.2L, you'd still have to go with the Audi for a few more bucks, both looks and performance.
Well, for the price of a used GT3 you could get a gen 2, put a 3.8 motor in it and upgrade brakes and suspension. Kills GT3's and has much better reliability and uses less consumables.

Even in stock form though, on track my Cayman S w/ PASM had no problem handling the 4.2L R8's. I was the only porsche on track with about 5 or 6 of them.

This would've looked much better if they'd just gone and copy/pasted the Boxster's front and rear bumpers to this. Oh well, goofy details aside, it's a solid looking evolution.

Solid! I would buy it if I could get an s in the 60's. 80's with options is way too much for this car.
This will be an amazing used car in the years to come. Btw I would buy a boxster spyder over this In a heart beat.

Porsche Cayman GTS

They are out (on Porsche website) both the Boxster and the Cayman GTS, with 340 PS.

does not compute.

If you option the Cayman S as the GTS, the GTS is slightly cheaper and has things you can't get on the S.

I noticed the GTS on the Porsche site yesterday as well. It's gorgeous and I want one.

Want list here too. My build was just under 90.
Cayman.

Expensive as usual but I still want one.
The sound clip alone does it for me.

I just would have liked a 25hp or so bump over the S.

I priced mine out to $78k which isn't bad. Funny thing is that Porsche announces the car and the configurator goes LIVE the same day unlike BMW.

Pretty uninformed remark considering the 911 was based off the Beetle from the start.

And a Cayman handles better than a 911.

Sigh...SMH.

If it wasn't clear with the first generation, the second generation Cayman/Boxster cemented itself as a better sports car than the 911. All the 911 has at this point is the 911 name and if you want to really fast, but in terms of chassis and dynamics, the Cayman/Boxster has it beat.

Quoted for truth. The critics are in love with the Cayman.

I have not made any market research on 911 customers, but I am sure Porsche has, and that is the 991 GT3 has no manual is a result of that research. Thus most should be buying the 911 for its badge, rather than for its driving characteristics. Too bad, because I'm sure Porsche would like to "kill" it.

Were I head of Porsche, I'd do something like this:

550: Entry level sportscar at Porsche powered by Flat4 Turbo, instead of the current 981.
911: Called "911" but is basically a Cayman/Boxster but with power/engines of 911, namely high-output Flat6 Turbo and NA. Of course have all the version, 4WD, Targa etc...
928: Mid-front engine GT with 2+2/4 seats, more practical, instead of the current GTish 991.
959: Mid-rear supercar with Flat8 Turbo to go against F12 and such.

Porsche sports cars would have numerical nomenclature, and Porsche "utility/luxury" cars would have names as nomenclature.
