M Sport package: paddle shifts or heated steering wheels?
M Sport package: paddle shifts or heated steering wheels?
Is there a point getting paddle shifts on a x28i? (as opposed to the fast x35i). And btw, it will be automatic transmission..so is there even a point. |

Since posting I realised your doubt about the point of having one , you need this if you want to drive in Manual mode where you up-shift manually but down-shifting will be done for you. I read that if you have shifters you don't have to manually switch to manual mode using gear knob. If you shift using it, it will automatically switch to manual and if you stop shifting then goes back to automatic.. but since I read a lot of stuff I don't know how much of this is true with X1.

I debated the issue until I ordered the car and was told I could not delete the paddles and substitute a heated steering wheel on the M Sport. Something to do with the Ultimate package

So which one were you planning to go for, BEFORE you found out that it couldn't be changed?

I didn't want the M-sport because you couldn't get the heated steering wheel and paddles together. I opted for no line and got the sport steering wheel with paddles and heated wheel on my 35i. The M-Sport rides very harshly over broken roads for my liking as its suspension tune was too stiff. Looking back I am glad I made that decision. I just wish the Msport seats were a stand alone option.

What's the model number for that? Why is it so stupid that M sports must be either or, but sports line (cheaper) can pick both? |

You CANNOT have the MSport package with a heated steering wheel. Paddles are standard on a automatic X1 (at least here in the US since there is no other option for transmission). You CAN have a heated non-M steering wheel. There are physical differences between the MSport and standard steering wheel. A heated MSport wheel for the X1 does not exist and would require BMW to create a 4th part number, and that's a little excessive for a car that is on the bottom of the model lineup totem poll. It's kinda stupid to expect having every permutation of options/features available on the X1. How many more threads are you going to create? |

To be clear, When I bought my 2013 35i, I selected no line meaning no sport line, no xline, no Msport. At the time you could get the sport steering wheel (non Msport) with paddles as an option and when selecting the cold weather package, the heating for the steering wheel is included.

When you are in a cold climate like I am, you are thankful for heated wheel when snow is piled up outside and thermometer say 10 degrees F. Gloves don't help much then but that heated wheel is NICE. Plus the MSport didn't come in the color I wanted.

Heated wheel is great. It helps so much when temps drop to ultra frigid -30 or whatever. I'm glad I have mine. Paddles are kinda junk, the trans isn't fast enough for them to be much fun

paddle shifters and heated wheel
hello all,
just a question to clarify please. Can X1 without m-sport, or sport line, still be ordered WITH the paddle shifters option, and also have the heated steering wheel with the cold weather package? thanks nillan Last edited by nillan; 10-08-2014 at 10:50 AM.. |

You live in Canada get the heated steering wheel, it is actually my favorite feature on the car.

Einstein is correct. At least in the US, you cannot get the heated steering wheel with the M sport package. My dealer confirmed this for me, and said a lot of his customers complain about this (including me!). I'm guessing that the thickness of the M wheel prevents enough heat to be transferred from the heating elements to the surface to make it worthwhile.
